Cortes/Deleon Display- kinda long!

I've come across an oddity with my Cortes and its numeric/graph display. When I first bought it, I dug everything whether the display showed "good stuff" or the dreaded "bad stuff". I wanted to get a good feeling about what the number readings were for tabs, coins, tabs/coins and coins/iron. I quickly found that if the display showed a strong signal on 50 cent and a weaker signal on iron, it was always a rusty nail or something like that. The depth indicator always read a depth greater than 6 Inches too. I found the give away was that you could only pinpoint the target in one axis. Since I have made this determination, I have found two older deep coins that showed the typical rusty iron pattern but I was able to pinpoint them whereas I couldnt with in iron object. Now I am beginning to wonder if I was off base from the start. It appears that if the target is greater than 5-6 inches deep, it will always give me that same iron/50cent message. Has anyone else notice this behavior? I would be interested in hearing others input about this. I know that I will have to be paying a lot closer attention to the overall package of info that the detector is giving me!

Hey ho! sorry, spent about a year and a half on the DFX forum (faster/snappier) so this site seems a little 'pedestrian' to me still I recommend you guys check it out for a week! ANYWAYS, squid person ... I use the UK version of the Deleon, and if it don't read obvious iron, I dig it out! as it states in the manual; no TID is 100% accurate, it has a lot to do with ground mineralisation and the orientation of the object detected, and all that technical stuff! 'If in doubt, dig it out'! HH charlie(UK)

Charlie,
what kind of depth are you getting with the Deleon, say on a small silver coin.

I don't do B.S. so here's the deal .....
I've only been out with the Hawkeye/Deleon a few times, and have yet to find a silver coin with it. The in-air tests I did with it at home suggest to me that this machine is as good as any other 'mid range price' machine! Here's a pic of a silver locket I found with it last Sunday. It was about 3" down. I did get a George 2nd copper coin at about 9" at the same dig! so that gives me confidence in this machine! I hope to be posting more pics of my finds with the Hawkeye/Deleon in the not too distant future! HH to y'all charlie(UK)

I guess I can call you that if you can call me squidboy When you found your George the 2nd Copper at 9 inches, what did it read out as? are they about the size of a penny? Does the Hawkeye have a graph as well as the numeric value? Just wondering if it told you what you thought it might be, before you dug it up?

You can call me that if you want, just as long as you don't think I am a bi-sexual heir to the throne! Yes, the Hawkeye has a bar graph and an I.D. number. I believe the graph was reading somewhere in the mid-way area (medium hammered/copper/brass) The I.D. number I don't remember, but it WAS a good audio/visual report that left me in no doubt about digging it up! If a target is giving me a good solid audio, then I will dig it. Only if the visual display information is giving me a '0' reading, then my experience so far says; it's iron!
As soon as I find my 'first' small thin hammered silver coin with it, I will post a pic and a big whoopieee message! so far, my experiences with the Hawkeye are filling me with confidence .... something I lost during my 2 years with the DFX
I feel with the Hawkeye that I am 'back on track'! and I look forward to posting pics here of some good finds. HH charlie(UK)
