Found this hunting a Union camp site. Any idea what these are worth? Don't want to sell it but was just curious. I put it beside a real one for comparison.
Thanks

Man I'm not sure what its made of. I put it in my junk pouch when I found it, but when I got to my local relic shop the owner look at it and said "I know exactly what that is" he went and got the real coin and took that pic of them. I was pretty excited. I'm hunting in a big Union camp been finding a lot of buttons also found a .69 cal musket/rifle barrel, part of the ram rod, and trigger guard. They were all in the same hole. Don't know where the lock butt plate and barrel bands went lol. I'm just waiting on my first plate!
Thanks

Counterfeiting did seem to exist among many of the Soldiers. Some were made out of melted lead like the ones I've got. They are interesting pieces of History indeed. As far as value...haven't a clue.
