Howdy,
I went right back to where I was yesterday, pretty much just continuing where I left off. This is a challenging place to hunt for a few classic reasons: tons of iron trash, and the disturbed ground. So can't rely too much on depth to help discriminate what might be better targets, so also had to pick up Zincolns while hoping for Indians (and I hate Zincolns).
Used the 8x6 SEF, and tried awhile in Ferrous audio, and awhile in Conductive. Just trying to get a read of the site and see which sections may be more productive. Every old coin was a small victory today it seemed, as the iron was really making things difficult! Oh, and if that weren't enough, there were lots of bits and pieces of melted metal - looked like solder or something, but rang up high anyway. Joy.
Anyway, there is upside. The soil is very sandy and fine-grained. Very gentle on the copper. It has age (as finally found), so has potential. And I'm guessing hasn't been thoroughly hunted (if at all).
So on to the finds!
Managed four Wheats, two Indian Heads, one '41 Jefferson (not shown), a dateless SLQ (one of these days I hope to find a crisp nice one!), pile of clad for coins. Fun stuff included a neat old Junior Ranger badge, and an old brooch. I had to empty my trash pouch three times for all the hunks of junk metal I found.
Last target of the day was the SLQ. I was reluctant to leave without bagging silver, and stayed an extra 30 min to do so. Just couldn't get a nice sweet silver tone under the coil all day until then.
