Crappy story I'm bummed!

So I have been detecting now for about 6 years off and on and have accumulated quite a few finds over the years. I came home yesterday after work to find my apartment had been broken into and a bunch of stuff had been stolen. They took stuff like all my tv stuff including dvd player, dvds and surround sound system. They took a bunch of my coins which I collect including all the silver dimes and old nickels I have found over the years. The amazing thing to this story is they did not take my Explorer and accesories which altogether is worth $1500 and they did not take my computer either? Make sure no matter where you live keep your windows locked and have a bar behind them so they cannot slide them open. I'm going on a detecting trip this weekend with my friend and hoping to clear my mind and make some great finds to start replacing what I lost. Happy detecting everyone!

Hey Travis.
There are people like that everywhere that have no respect for another man's belongings. Keep your head up and remember..."What goes around comes around". They will get there just dues!
Also...not to make light of it..because it's happened to me as well..but it could have been worse. They could have taken your detector too. You were lucky as apparantly they weren't real bright thieves!
Start finding keepers and start your collection again.

That's the one thing I think about more often than not. I have a lot of people tell me to put stuff in a safe deposit box but shrug it off. I do lock my windows whenever we leave but that's about it. Not sure which I would want stolen my detectors or all my finds. Both would be a terrible loss in itself. My big thing is I like to show and tell visitors including myself with the older coins and jewelry in cases. Here's hoping your hunt will be fruitful and you can start replenishing things.

that you've seen the last of those low lifes. A lot of times they'll come back several weeks later to get what they left behind the first time. You would do well to beef up your home security and even look into a good dog or alarm/camera system to deter a future intrusion. It's up to you to take the bull by the horns here because the cops won't help much if any. I've found this to be true the hard way.

I'm sincerely sorry about your loss. I'm in the same boat as you but I recently took some action. They were off the air and now they recently returned. If you want some "excellent" home security tips and equipment, watch "It Takes a Thief" on the Discovery channel. I have learned a lot watching that program, to protect my family and possessions. HH

Very sorry to hear about your loss. While you are blocking the windows invest in some good dead bolt locks. I don't mean the Home Depot/Lowe's kind. I own several rental properties and sometimes the tenants leave and lock me out or change locks. Let me tell you that I can get through a deadbolt lock with a cordless drill as fast as you can with a key. Buy good locks as the extra $$$ will pay off in the end. .02

I had the almost same exact thing happen to me but it was Sports Cards they took. Luckily I knew exactly who did it and the idiot's brung back a few Cards and tried selling them to me and told me that they met a guy out by the Interstate that had them and I told them to get more of them. Dumbies believed me while I played stupid. One was a High School Kid and the other was an adult and he spent some time in Jail. He even had to pay for all the Cards that were taken which I didn't mind since he thought he had still pulled a quick one on me, I thought I would return the favor and I told the Judge that the Cal Ripken Jr. Rookie that I had was impossible to find ungraded and to have one in the exact condition I would have to pay $1500 for a Gem Mint Copy. The Judge told him that he owed me $1500 for that card alone (at the time an ungraded card was booked for $50.00 so you can see a pulled a quick one on the little #!*&#?!). And this is how I ended up getting my Explorer XS. I now have an Alarm System and Camera's and this will not happen again because no-one is going to stick around when this Alarm goes off. I hope you get lucky and you find some of your stuff at a Local Coin Shop or Pawn Shop and hope the Police catch the thieves. Hope you have some Good Luck and try not to think about it.

It hurts to see one of the bunch get robbed or taken advantage of, One of my friends experienced the same.

Our friend Vic had his entire finds robbed, Over twenty years of his finds gone in a matter of minutes. He too was bummed and to the extent he quit metal detecting for about two years, Recently started up again.

At least you still have the memories which will last a lifetime, Cherish those memories and built up your collection again,

Best money I ever spent was on well trained dogs. They watch my house better than if you hired a personal body guard. At least mine do anyway, sure somebody could shoot the dogs but all that noise is what a thief is trying to AVOID. A well trained dog knows when something isn't right and reacts instantly, I know I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of these choppers.
My dogs aren't barkaholics either, when they do bark then all of my neighbors have learned that "something is up" and lights go on etc.
I was ripped off for some big buck items several times, invested in the dogs and it all STOPPED instantly.
Even so, the dogs are a HUGE responsibility, so everything comes with a price I guess.
Hope you get your stuff back, getting ripped off sucks.

I live in an apartment and I'm going to be done on my lease in November and I'm going to move. I cant have a dog and security cameras and stuff might not make a huge difference since I live in an apartment I cant really do to much to it unfortunately. I'm sorry to everyone who has had this experience themselves and I feel for you. I hate people who take advantage of other people but its OK they will get their just reward one day. Happy hunting everyone I hope to be posting some finds over the weekend.

Ardent metal detectorists houses are prime targets for thieves..They think its loaded with silver and gold..We always have had a dog with big teeth and extra locks but a secrity system might be in order...
Do remember if someone steals your detector from your home or car have the police enter the serial # in NCIC. Being a former policeman I know many items are returned beause of this...Always wondered how many
stolen detectors were sold on classifieds for used detecting equiptment...
