crazy signals

Hey everyone.

just a fast question i'm getting all these broken signals where the 250 won't hit on the back sweep, then not at all or both. its starting to drive me crazy I know to turn down sens.


i have no cell phone with me,do i dig even the signals that won't register consistantly or what. sorry im getting frustrated. need to pray to my higher power Any thoughts though?

Same situation here.. Usually it's a bottle cap, but sometimes a nickel.

Hi Travis.
It could simply be junk that you are sweeping over, which is quite normal. If you suspect that it isn't that, then if you have a coil cover on, pull it off and clean it, as this can cause those sort of problems. Also, check to see if your batteries have a solid contact, because that can cause all sorts of grief as well. Failing that, check your cables and their connectors, just to be sure that you are getting good contacts as well.

Also check to see how tight your cord is that runs from the coil to the unit
it should be not tight or to loose, sometimes this will give false signals

Have you tried "twitching" on these signals?

It could be a junk target but it could be a good target also. ? confused ? use your detector in all metal mode and see if you are getting two different signals because if you have two metal objects close together the detector is going to sound off on the first metal it goes across and miss the other one because the detector can't recover fast enough to read it. You can try placing a steel washer and a coin close together and see if it read the coin it will not do it until you get about 2 inches apart. I use my 250 in all metal mode and when i hit iron i twitch the coil around the area trying to avoid the iron and see if a coin is close by,I know some places you can't use all metal mode because of to much junk. I have found more coins now by slowing down and not swinging the coil so far.

Something else you can do is stomp on the target, sometimes that helps.

I believe it's when after you have pinpointed the target, release pinpoint and then rapidly wave the coil over the target with a very short sweep. DING<DING<DING=DIG no DING< no dig, that's what I do to confirm a target. I'm sure Uncle Willy could answer that question better.

i find that if your scanning a signal and its really broken,it usualy turns out to be junk

and a constant signal back and fourth solid signals,regardless of noise is pretty much a keeper find.....also the signals that are DING,DING,DING,DING while holding coil just above target are coins just unger the surface 1/2 inch or less

Yup!!!!
Get a signal one way and nothing on the return. Happened to me a bunch of times yesterday.
I find it is most always trash but it can be frustrating.
Using all-metal or (my favorite) jewelry mode are good ways to really lock in on a dissapearing signal.

I've experienced this a few times in the short time I've had mine. The latest ... it seemed to sense a dime or quarter and appeared that grass blades were setting it off even if the sens. was set at 1 bar. After remembering that I repositioned the coil wire I found that I had the coil wire fastened to the shaft to tight.

I've had that happen with my Ace 250 too, many times. Whenever I have dug the target it's been small pieces junk, so I pretty much pass it up when it happens now. But, you never know what you'll be passing up unless you dig .
