After 20 years of detecting I finally found a civil war item. I don't know if it was a belt buckle or breastplate. Maybe one of you relic hunters can tell me. I found it while on vacation in Tenn.
On the back it says CSA 1862.

post those with dave in the relic forum, if it's what I think it is... I't a very very special relic.
Post a smaller clearer pic if possible

You've been "Punked" by a Hillbilly. That is a modern reproduction of a prewar Militia "Patriotic Star" buckle. Although vintage pieces are associated with Texas and Mississippi troops, yours is a modern piece. The two holes were to allow small nails to attach to a "relic board." (common practice in the following years right after the CW). I have seen these for sale in many yard sales and flea markets. Someone most likely bought one and lost it. Or; salted the site you hunted. With good or bad intentions. Sorry to break your heart, but this goes on in the Arrowhead collecting community all the time; and it's headed into the CW arena, just look at Ebay. We do have authentic relics here, I promise. Better luck next time. Good hunting, David @ Dixie
