[size=large]Went to a place that had been really good for us in the past. I discovered this encampment about 2 years ago, it had never been detected before. Most people would think it was too far from the road that was used during the Civil War time. In the above picture, I am standing on one of the three hilltops that the relics are on... the one I'm standing on, the one across from this shot, and there's one to my left about 200 yards. Mountain Man and I retrieved probably about 500+ bullets off these hilltops so far, about 8 eagle buttons, Mountain Man got a Confederate manuscript I button, so the place is still giving up some good relics. Craig, this is the place I took you where I caught the black snake. The farmer had just recut the field again, so I'm only having to swing about 4" off the ground to clear the stubble. [/size]

[size=large]Got out of the truck and started swinging for about 4 minutes; not a peep out of my detector, than BAM! Real good signal, VDI 50, too low for a bullet I figured but I always like those signals around 50, usually some interesting stuff. Just about this time I realized I didn't bring my shovel, so I had to dig with my Lesche. I'm using the big 14" DD coil because there's virtually no trash at this site. So I repinpoint, and go to stick the Lesche in the ground... concrete. The ground was extremely hard, I was even looking for a rock to pound the digger into the ground. Finally I got down to about 6" (the detector said it was 5"), poked in there with a pinpointer, and nothing. Now I'm pretty good at pinpointing, but if the target is on edge it can throw your pinpointing off by an inch or more. So I repinpointed and decided to take a little more off one side. I sliced about 2 more inches off, and the button fell into the hole. As you can see, I barely creased it with the digger; not down to the metal, but I did shine up the patina for sure. This is a Confederate artillary (A) coat button~ YEEHAW! It is an iron backed button so 2/3 of that is rusted away, as well as the shank gone. But the button front is in good solid shape. [/size]

[size=large]Here's the finds for the day, cleaned up. Got 2 Spencer bullets, one a whole Spencer, 3 Sharps, and a couple of mini's. [/size]
