I was told there was an old stone foundation house site somewhere on this 600 acres. I've been searching for it over a week... in the wrong fields. Finally got a little better bearing from a guy who said he did some perk testing on that land and told me where he thought he remembered seeing that foundation. Anyway, after about a half mile walk I finally see the house site; big trees on a hilltop, thicket all around, this has got to be it. Click on photos to enlarge.

I walk into the thicket and sure enough, there is the fallen down chimneys but there's a feral dog living in there. She was skin and bones, her ribs sticking out noticeably and her belly sunken in. She didn't bark or growl, but she would not get any closer than about 15 feet from me. I tried to coax her over but she would have nothing to do with it. She did follow me around as I detected the circumference of the thicket, but always stayed back about 15 feet. I felt sorry for her, wish I could have driven my truck back there and brought her some food but it would be dark before long.

Here's the stone foundation and fallen over chimneys; don't know the age it was built but has to be early 1800's or older. Lots of targets ~ never been detected, no no pull tabs or modern junk but there were screw caps, and I did find a toy fire engine from the 1930's or so. I believe the site was inhabited until about the 1950's would be my guess.

Michigan state seal, can't make out the back; also got a silver plated ring and other whatnots.

Old key.

Here's some of the better finds in about the 45 min. I was able to detect it; there was a good bit of melted lead, scrap brass, broken pewter, pottery shards in most of the holes. Unfortunately I won't be able to detect this for another month, as the caretaker told me he will be having hunting parties in there in the month of April, and asked me not to go in the fields while they are hunting that month. So I probably won't go back unitl the recut the fields in late May, maybe.
Thanks for looking.
