Curious on Gold Rings found with higher VDI readings....

I am hoping to get some replies on jewelry that you folks have found that had higher VDI readings?
I know that silver rings, I found four last year, read high. I am more interested in what type of gold rings were found with higher VDI readings.
Both of my meager gold rings read a VDI of 18. I am assuming a large gold class ring would read a lot higher.
What is prompting this is those solid VDI's I get at VDI 40 that show "ring" as first choice and the confidence bars are also high. Every time I dig one I find the older larger pull tabs. Has anyone ever found gold rings at this reading?
Also what about those 50 readings that are more likely to be a penny than a gold ring. Anyone ever find jewelry in the 50's VDI range?
Hoping to get a lot of post from this.

Johnny, MOST women's gold rings of 10k and 14k gold VDI at from 12 to 18 on the scale. Most of the larger men's class rings I have found were in the 40's to low 50's. I have seen a few gold-plated silver ribgs that read in the 70's to low 80's. Hope this helps some; HH Jim

Johnny
I found one big mens class ring that read a solid 37 another larger womens class ring had a solid 30 and a small womens read 22. Most silver rings/jewelry comes in the 70-80 range. That is the one reason I seem to dig alot of trash, these good targets will often be in the same range as trash and a lot of tabs will give you a solid raeding. When in doubt DIG !!!

What type of a read out are you getting with these VID's. Does it say RING, PULL TAB? or what. Or do you dig all in between 12 and 80 if the confidence bar is strong? Greg in MI

Greg,
You can't, or shouldn't, go by the read out. Very decieving if you are wanting jewelry. The post above give the VDI readings.

Johnny B, are you saying to dig all from 12 to 80 if the confidence bars are solid?

All,
Thanks for the post. Especially the ones stating you found rings at 37 & 22. Those are the ones I pass most of the time...
Jim, I have been digging all solid foil readings from 8 - 18 since an earlier post of yours stating you need to if you want to find the smaller women rings which usually have diamonds attached. I have not brought myself to digging the 0 - 8 VDI's as yet..
I am getting more interested in finding the good stuff since my whistle has been wet with finding two gold rings so far this year.
I am just going to have to dig all signals in these ranges to find the gold and hopefully my first real diamond ring. I will attempt to do a count on these to see how many tabs I dig compared to found rings.
I read where one guy estimates he digs 200 pull tabs for every ring found. That's probably not too bad if true for most. My concern is those parks I know of that are full of pull tabs. I guess that is a good sign since it is apparent that other detectorist have passed them by as well, as well as any jewelry lying there.
The chiropractor will love me for doing so..
HH and thanks for the replies..

Greg,
Always dig the higher 70 - high 80's. 78-85 is either a dime, quarter or possibly a silver ring.
Yeah, I guess we need to dig most signals to find the good stuff. As soon as you think you have a handle on this stuff it changes..
I tend not to dig the lower readings that swing. In other words a target that reads 8, 14, 10 depending on the direction of the pass. I make a mental note of these and they always seem to be a piece of foil. The ones that hit solid in these ranges I dig. They also are usually pieces of foil or parts of a can, etc. I do go by the confidence bars and the sound when making that decision to dig or not to dig.
Now I will see a post about this reading that jumped all over and out came a broach worth $3,000...
Like I said, as soon as you think you have these readings figured out someone will post just the opposite and make it sound convencing.

Greg, it is indeed true that if you want to find "all" gold jewelry, you don indeed have to dig ALL of the positive numbers on the VDI scale. However, if you really want to MAXIMIZE your potential for finding rings, be advised that the average detectorist will find 10 women's rings for every man's ring. And, furthermore, the overwhelming majority of yellow gold women's rings register in the "teens." My suggestion: use low discimination (the first arrow on the MXT scale is fine) and pay partiucular attention to those signals which register from +10 to +20. Probably 95% of all potential gold ring finds will register there. Hope this helps; HH Jim

Sorry about the misspellings; been up since early, mowing the lawn, planting flowers, etc. Hey, I can recommend the Sierra Dig It for transplanting. hey Johhny, I see you beat me by a few minutes. HH Jim

Thanks for the help, Johnny. I haven't got the hang of different tones in the coin & Jewlery mode yet.

Hey all,
Just reading on this post. Cant help but wonder, From reading here and using the mxt myself, Seems good targets can range from single digits to +90's. Now rather than putting so much into these readings, why not cover the display with tape, set the discrimination level at 2 (just enuff to disc out most iron) and dig everything that beeps ??? This way we will be sure not to leave anything behind, good or bad. Also if the good stuff is hiding under the trash, once you remove the trash the good stuff should be there for the taking, right ???. Now don't get me wrong, I have and know others do as well found times when it's alot easier just to dig the targets you are sure of . But what about all them tab and foil readings?? Are they really tabs or foil ?? So far I have not found a fool proof method of determining this other than digging to see, and if anyone has, would they be so kind as to PLEASE share this info. with us all.
