Cut spanish silver????

It sure has been awhile since my last post. As usual, busy with work. I've been in a bit of a slump lately at pounded park. All I've been getting lately are Wheaties, Injuns, Buffs and V-Nicks. It just seems like the producing areas are not producing like they used to. My buddy Ron found a 1917-S walking liberty half today at the park near a fishing spot that I've hunted before. I told him my 1856 Seated dime that I dug last year came from that general area when we hunted the park last week. I took him thru the park and pointed out all the areas that produced something other than wheats... Anyways, when I received his text, he relayed where he had found it. It kinda put me in a bummed out mood. I've been barely getting silver this year and my buddy pulls out a freakin' half from right under my nose. After he showed me the picture, I was determined to hunt the area. I arrived at the park a little after 7 and hunted until the mosquitos drove me away. Lately I've been using the 5x8 coil in trashy areas to squeeze out some good masked targets. Its been working well, but I don't find much silver with the coil. Anyways, I hunted near some trees tonight and was rewarded with yet, another buffalo nickel for the year. I think I'm up to 7 or 8 so far... I started working near this tree and got a nice faint high tone. It was pretty much dark and I couldn't see the numbers, but it was a repeatable good tone. I dug a 5" plug and when I stuck the propointer in the hole it gave off a little chirp. I scooped out some more dirt and ran the propointer along the side of the hole and picked up the signal. I scooped out a little more dirt and finally it was out of the hole. At first it looked like a piece of worn down aluminum, but after using the light of the propointer, it looked like silver. I ran the target over the coil and the tone is more of a mid tone. Which really doesn't mean anything. I have several thin pieces of marked sterling and they all ring up in the high 50's, low 60's. The more I look at the other side, the more I see a faint crown at the top.

I know there isn't any details on this thing to be sure, but it is definitely cut and thin like Spanish silver is. It was also found about 15 feet away from where my buddy dug a 1730's KG copper last year. Any input is welcomed. HH!

The more I look at this side, the more I think it is Spanish silver. If you look at the pictures, I circled what looks like a crown and also what appears to be the letter "R". I weighed the piece and it weighs a mere 0.3 grams. Extremely thin, but when you drop it on a wooden table, it has that silver "ting" sound we all know to appreciate.

It sure looks right, sounds right too, its not aluminum, certainly silver, from an old dirt area...I dont know of any other way of evaluating it, acid or an RFX thingamajig would just tell you its silver...its Old and a nice find, so You should call it!:clapping:

Is difficult to be 100% sure but you have many possibilities to have right, I think so too.
