CZ 21 or CZ3D Civil War

drybones

New member
Going to a Civil War area, if you dig just about everything, which is better, a CZ3D or a CZ21 with a 10" coil.

CZ3D is made for old areas with an advanced mode and is hipmountable for that 10 inch coil weight along with a meter for more clarification on your digs..
CZ21 is locked in salt mode and although comfortable in the water is heavy and clumsy for land hunting....
So a CZ3D hands down as its made for this enviroment and type of hunt...

Well the verdicts in, took both CZ3D and CZ21 to Virginia on a 3 day hunt. My 3 friends and myself all had CZ3D. The red clay drove the 3d detectors crazy, could only realistcally run 2 disc. Very difficult to ground balance if at all. There aint no way your using inhanced mode in that soil. after 2hrs. I whipped out the 21 and went to work, more stable 10" coil covered more ground and found one pommel conf.cap and 2 buttons, the 3D's got absolutely nothing.Take it for what its worth,I"m just saying.

Hey, I was curious about the CZ problems you and your friends had in the bad soil. Did anybody try salt mode? Did anybody try all metal? Were you bobbing for ground balance? Really curious about your situation. That could really ruin a guy's day if that is the only detector he had on the trip. If you can, please share a little more info and details. Your story is very interesting to a lot of people.

Thanks, Don

Of course the CZ21 is locked in salt mode which will handle bad soil better sort of like setting up a unit in negative ground balance..For all purposes the standard mode should be equal of the CZ3D should be the same as the CZ21 with a meter and of course being a land machine easier to handle. Guess thats why they have the toggle on the CZ3D to give you two modes in one unit..
Of course all goes back to the tuning of either and thats to be taken into consideration also.

In response to some of the ?. On the 3D.,If you picked up a handful of dirt and had Disc.at 0 in salt mode you will get signals. you have to run at least 2. Now thats in the red clay in Virginia. Now We are all from Ohio, if you go to an old 150 year old farm house ,Fisher says to use the inhanced mode, well it aint happening, if a farm house is 150 years old there is a lot of trash around. you will be digging a lot of signals, just dig everything anyway and you dont need the inhanced. The CZ21 will do the same thing. 4 men with over 75 years of experience cant be too wrong .Now the 3D is a good unit, dont get me wrong, but it is heavy,if you are going out for 10 hours or less it has to be hip mounted. Now the nobs are designed so loose that ground balance, sensitivity are always moving, not a good thing. If you dont use headphones, a lot of dirt will get in the speaker jack. You must constantly tighten the set screws on the nobs, or you will lose them That has happened on 3 machines already. Its a good machine, but there are better designed ones.

Yes, the CZ3D will kick @$$ on older sites vs the CZ21. As someone previously mentioned the CZ21 is locked in salt mode.
This equates into a slight amount of depth loss depending on your soil. Your target i.d. will be better at depth with the CZ3D in enhanced mode.
If you can run the CZ in enhanced mode the depth is also is better, slightly deeper.
If you have an older CZ3D you should be able to air test a Clad Dime at about 12+" when in enhanced mode and a Merc, slightly deeper.
I like the CZ21 but only for the water, everywhere else is owned by the CZ3D.

Hip mount it.
