CZ-3D ground balance question

Terry

New member
Have just bought a CZ-3D and took it out for the first time this weekend. I was wowed to say the least, and my I normally use a sovereign. I have a question about ground balancing. Our area has been deluged with rain and the ground is saturated. I tried to balance in the salt mode and failed so I set the detector to the turn on and go settings and forged ahead. Like I said...I was wowed with the accurate ID and the ease of operation. I turned down the sensitivity a tad to contend with the false signals but all in all it worked pretty good. My question is...What should you do when it is impossible to ground balance?

Reread the ground balance procedure again as many new owners are guilty of operator error rather than unable to ground balance..Indeed if you can't just set it at preset...for the time being...This has been hashed over many times on this forum over the years and sure confuses new owners...

but if you can't GB, then just use preset, it might cut the depth a little, but from some of the testing I have done, it aint much if any in my area. But, the proper GB does improve on falsing.

Good luck,
Mike

I've had my 3D for a year and a half, sometimes it is a little tricky to set! I don't have my manual with me now but I do remember a part in the book that tells you to go back to the turn on settings (or something like that) and then when it shows you how to set it for the push button method, it sort of countradicts itself (?) that might be some of you problem. Try using the bobbing method seems to be the best way. I do remember a couple places where I just couldn't get it to ground balance. Then go with the preset method.

:fisher: Terry Find a clean spot without metal. Place coil above ground about 1" to 2", push pinpoint button and pump coil up and down from about 1" to 6" of ground. With ground balance nob at 10 turn it slowly towards 1 until it gos neutral no sound or very little change in sound while pumping coil. You can also do the same thing by putting it in all metal and bobbing coil without pushing pin point button. Then switch back to disc mode and away you go. If sound increases towards ground it is positive and if it decreases it is negative, Note positive turn GB nob towards 10 and if negative turn GB nob towards 1 slowly pumping or bobbing coil. Also re ground balance if you change any settings later on.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the good advice.I've been practicing all three ways to balance and I think i've got it pretty much mastered. I'm going back to an old site this afternoon so we'll see what happens.
