Have just bought a CZ-3D and took it out for the first time this weekend. I was wowed to say the least, and my I normally use a sovereign. I have a question about ground balancing. Our area has been deluged with rain and the ground is saturated. I tried to balance in the salt mode and failed so I set the detector to the turn on and go settings and forged ahead. Like I said...I was wowed with the accurate ID and the ease of operation. I turned down the sensitivity a tad to contend with the false signals but all in all it worked pretty good. My question is...What should you do when it is impossible to ground balance?
Terry Find a clean spot without metal. Place coil above ground about 1" to 2", push pinpoint button and pump coil up and down from about 1" to 6" of ground. With ground balance nob at 10 turn it slowly towards 1 until it gos neutral no sound or very little change in sound while pumping coil. You can also do the same thing by putting it in all metal and bobbing coil without pushing pin point button. Then switch back to disc mode and away you go. If sound increases towards ground it is positive and if it decreases it is negative, Note positive turn GB nob towards 10 and if negative turn GB nob towards 1 slowly pumping or bobbing coil. Also re ground balance if you change any settings later on.
