CZ21 OR Excalibur

LS hunter

Member
My question is ,Can the CZ id well if any,Witch one will get better depth,And is there a big difference from the cz 20 to CZ 21??? Please keep in mind im hunting in salt water,Most of my time in Pensacola....Mississippi ,Bollix,I live in Louisiana ill drive 4 to 5 hours for a hunt no problem,If any of you guys know of a spot i can hit please let me know ,,I'm not asking for your hot spots just a spot,,,,Im looking for a good water detector with some IDing,,,,,-Please let me know what you guys think,,,,I have to ask this one,,Do you think the CTX 3030 would be a good saltwater detector??All around detector????Salt and fresh....

Your question about the CZ20 or 21.... you will hear from both sides just like you would from the Exp II or SE. Both are equally capable and like every machine it can be location and style of hunting that makes the choice difference. My answer on the CTX is for the money no. Price wise i dont think the advanges are there i still believe simple is the best approach on the beach. It could do as an all around detector as long as you understand.... in some situations it might be second best or even 3rd.... but it works. You have to determine what your needs are..... personally, id buy 2 machines for that price or 3 if you get used. CZ and Xcal have different coil set ups. Id say the CZ is a little more sturdy, but i like the pod set up of the Xcal better. Which one works best.... again depends on where you are and if you get the target under the center of the coil. I believe you cover more ground more efficiently with the Xcal and the Xcal is pretty darn easy to learn. Water hunting is a lot different than dirt hunting. Dirt hunting does take a little more skill on your behalf and personally i prefer a TID system. Water hunting..... if its not a bottle cap or iron, you want a beep and dig machine with limited tones and some disc that is light enought out there to push around. Either of these machines will do fresh water.

of the two, the cz is easier to use as far as tones are concerned....three tones vs a wide range of tones. as far as depth they are equal! i use both for saltwater hunting and different machines for inland.

Wide range of tones?? Ive not noticed but 3 tones on the Xcal.... high med and low. Only 2 knobs to use once you set it for your area...... threshold/on and sensitivity which you only need to adjust if you like to tweak it like i do. Otherwise its turn it on and go..... you just cant get easier than that.

Never used an EXCAL and won't pay that much for a 3030. I have used my CZ20 upgraded to a CZ21 for years. Three tones, but not real hot a very small gold. Simple to use. Got to love the "MID" tone. Check out what I found today (MID TONE)!!!!! 14kt diamond ring. I also like my AT PRO, but it does struggle a little in certain areas of salt water, but hotter on very small gold and chains. JMO

How's the depth on the excalibur in saltwater??

Man that is sweet. I hate to ask this I know I'm going to catch some flack.would u buy from kellyco.

Thanks for all your help,U sure know your bees wax ...I think it will come down to who has the best service department to .

I have used CZ's for over 20 years, and also used Excals for 10-12 years on the salt water beaches here in NJ. Out of all those years, I have not found much if any difference PERFORMANCE wise. That is on the beaches I hunt and the conditions of those beaches. As we all know, conditions play a major role in how a unit is going to operate.

The main things to consider when trying to decide between and Excal and a CZ are as follows:

DD vs Concentric coils
Threshold based or silent search in discriminated mode
Multiple tones or 3 tones
Automatic ground balance or manual ground balance

For me, I prefer a CZ over an Excal but that is just me, and it has nothing to do with better performance. I just like the CZ's features more....that's all. Will an Excal out perform a CZ in certain conditions, sure. And a CZ will out perform an Excal in certain ones too. It's a wash in my opinion when it comes to which one is better, for the conditions I hunt in.

If there are more beach hunters using Excals than CZ's where you plan on hunting, there may be a reason. The Excal may perform better there and that may be what you should get. Still, if you like the features of a CZ better, than that may be the better unit. Nothing is going to up performance on a unit more than actually USING the unit. And if you don't like the features of a unit, it's not going to serve you well.

HMMMMMMM?????? I bought mine from a Delaware local dealer. He beat every ones price, but of course that was about 7 or 8 years ago. With out going into it, I had a bad experence with a salesman there and just can't get over it. That's just me!

dew,
the tones kind of bleed into one another and start out as a multiple tone sometimes until you rescan. with the cz its a solid low mid or high beep. on the excal there is a range of low tones, mid tones, and high tones. afterall, there is a "ear training cd" for the excal.
is that a better explanation/description?

Thanks Seeker ....Im so used to using the SE that it sounded like 3 tones i guess. What ever the tones, its working great for me. But i think therover said it well. Many of the people i run into here in Fl use the Xcal.... ive often thought of picking up a used CZ as a back up just because sometimes a different machine may make a big difference. As far as Kelleyco..... i always shop around. Get the best water machine you can..... its going to pay for its self if you use it.
