CZ3D ground balance?

I notice on my CZ3D that i don't get a lot of change moving the ground balance nob while bobbing the coil. I understand manual ground balance as i have a Vaquero.
Could the Nob be loose?

If it is working and not loose, your soil is mild. If you barley have to move the knob (cw or ccw) to gb, the soil is hot. When I was in Florida detecting at the beach, I could turn the knob both ways with no difference in threshold sound.

Could be, one way to find out, take the knob off and try with just the stem.

I noticed you say bobbing the coil, nothing wrong with that method, but the manual states that the pushbutton method may be preferred. I just got a new to me CZ-3D this past week and the first thing I tried was pushbutton ground balancing, piece of cake.

I always GB with bobbing, the manual states that it is the best method. My soil here GB's between 5-6 on the dial usually.

You may not be hearing the changes well....put sens. and volume at 10 when you balance and use the bobbing method as its more accurate.

Now the changes will be more pronounced and once you balance reset the sens. and volume to your spec's....

Dead on ground balance equates to better depth and stability and probably the most misunderstood facet of a user friendly CZ....

tailofdog is right the CZ-3D could not GB normally with the supplied 8" coil.
A bad solder job at the plug made a short between pin 3 and pin 5 when the sleeve was connected.
5 year warranty or not........... with no Fisher qualified/authorised service/repair facility in the region, this is not a recommended experience.

Push button method is optimal .... Even during searching ( DISC) one can GB ( bob coil ) anytime to maintain GB.
During my hunting i rebalance a few times after a set amount of hunting to " check " GB.

Usually if minerals are light and no desercnable difference i leave at 5-6 . I use the next target found to " guage " depth attained .
One can also experiment with GB ( off target) to see if depth or response can be improved.

I use the 5" coil and can focus GB to hit coins at 10" plus ( depending on target size )
:please:
