Day 2 with the 2500 and 1st silver

kickback

New member
The old homestead I hunted was a bust,no coins, just on mule shoe(?).I went to the local drive inn. This gets hunted by everybody locally with a detector.I found a 1944 plain Mercury dime and some clad.I went to a small playground by a swimming pool.I dug a 1950 wheatie and a 1976 Kennedy Half dollar.I ended up with $2.62 in clad, the wheatie and silver dime.I'm pleased with the 2500.It really hits coins hard. One of the dimes was straight up and down in the ground at 3".My arm is sore from swinging it though.Hope to get out tomorrow again.Bill

I don't have the exact figure but I had to dig 3 or 4 thousand clad coins before I dug my first silver dime. As it always seems to happen, once I found one they started coming fast and furious. Where did it hit? About half the dimes find, no matter the composition, hit on cent.

Chris It hit as a dime.I did notice that some of the dimes hit as 1 cent.It was a total shock to find a Mercury dime at the drive inn.I went there in hopes of finding clad just to get more familar with the machine. The area I live in has basically no population. The biggest town in the county(this county is huge) is 1300 people. There are 9 towns in the county. Some of the schools have less than 50 kids attended, this is all grades combined. There are 3 schools in the county now.I'm always in awe of someones day's hunt where they find over $5.00 in clad. When I started detecting about 2 years ago I found one silver coin all summer. It was the places I hunted that were responsible for this. Now I always "grid" a spot off in my mind and try to cover it that way.I found lots more silver coins that way.I've had some 5 to 7 silver coin hunts this summer already. Now I have to pay more attention to the signals other than Belltone.I'm sure I have missed some nickels.Bill
