Day One of Cleaning up behind the hotel...

Pete in MI

New member
Started out by leaving the house around 8 AM - finally called it quits for the say around 1:30 PM. I'm not even close to half way done with cleaning up the area.

The picture I posted yesterday of the water area behind the hotel does not show the water area I am detecting in. It is to the right of the dock and just about as big as the area you saw in the picture.

Here is the trash I found:

This is what I left in the floating sieve because it wouldn't fit in the bag I wore on my hip (to the right of the floating seive) which was full.

What you see in the next picture is what was in the black bag I had on my hip...keep in mind the screws, nails, pull tabs, bottle caps and all you see...are all in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket!

Then the stuff I had in the floating seive I added to the top of the bucket of screws, etc.

There was one of those driveway marker light outfits, part of a fishing rod, a long rod (and something I couldn't include in any of the photos was the 10 length of 2 inch PVC pipe lying on the bottom...left it on the dock.

I gave the bucket to the desk clerk so the management could see what was removed from the swimming area. (They had just gone to lunch so I didn't get to talk to them when I left.)

OK so now ya saw all the nasty stuff. I bet you are bitting at the bit to see what way cool goodies I got out of that area. Well, remember a couple things...first I ran the detector wide open with no discrimination...I didn't want to miss anything...and second, as I mentioned I am not quite close to the 1/2 way mark...oh yeah I did find 3 of the stakes they wanted me to find but they never gave me anything to mark them with so only I know where they are.

OK so here is the picture of my 'goodies'...I hope your heart can stand to look on all this...please hold the applause and good job comments....

Yeah, one quarter, 2 nickels, 2 Mem pennies and the oldest coin is a 65 dime. The ring..isn't a ring but some loop thingy. The rest is really more trash.

OK now ya can give me the applause and pats on the back. Just kidding.

Hey the only satisfaction I got out of this was 2 things, one being the knowledge someone will not get hurt on this stuff while trying to enjoy their vacation and the other was the comment made by a lady on staff there asking another staff member what I was doing out there..and I hear her reply Oh I thought he was out playing with the ducks. (There was a nice family of ducks sharing the water with me).

Tomorrow I go back and see if I can finish up the job.

As we went out tonight and took this picture to the right of us was a 'party' going on. Casey said "Hey, he just threw a bottle cap in the water!" Figures.

So it would be the area to the right of the dock in this picture.
