I decided to put the stock coil on and see if the Fe meter worked any differently. I tried it in my yard and it ground balanced fast and sure with the ground grab button. The Fe meter would not light up until I swept the coil over a quarter laying on the ground. It would get one bar over the quarter so I knew it was not broke. I put the 11 inch dd coil back on and it also ground balanced in seconds. It also would illuminate one bar on the meter over a quarter. I did this yesterday evening and I took the Omega for a short hunt this am before it rained. I took it to a local older school and with the 11 inch dd coil on it I got it to balance quickly, but it made a bunch of chirping and squeaking while doing it. It balanced at 69 and again the Fe meter would not light any bars until I passed the coil over junk. I did find out that this detector is super sensitive to having the sensitivity too high. There was no way to get it above 70 and since I was learning the detector, I did not push it. It was running smooth at 60, disc at 16, and one tone. The first target was a large junk signal with a smaller, deeper signal a couple of inches away. I got it isolated and dug a 1945 mercury dime from 6 inches. I was impressed! I kept hunting and the next coin was a 7 inch deep wheat penny. A very strong signal. By the way, this is the deepest I ever find coins at this school, so the Omega will hunt with the Explorers and CZ's here.It started raining and I had to stop hunting. At no point did the FE meter ever light up at all, only if over something. I don't think this is normal, but the detector was working very well. I also decided to not pay as much attention to the error meter. The detector was running very smoothly and if the ground had changed that much, I would think the Omega would have started acting erratically. In the future I will turn the sensitivity down until it runs smooth and even in the 50's and 60's it is very deep. I think the Omega is one hot detector and it should only get better as I learn it.
