Daytona pays off

My SE helped me big time in Daytona.... Although this was a seeded hunt, it was a lot of fun. I was surprised to pick up an 1877 Seated quarter, first day. I didn't see or hear of anyone getting a coin like this, except for some Indian Head pennies and a couple Buffalo Nickels. I was using the butterfly coil and had no problems at all on the sand.

I took my SE for a ride on the beach, wet and dry and not a problem one bit.

All the dimes on the left are silver. Oh, forgot, I also won a detector Garret's Gold Scorpion and sold it for $300 on the spot and then bought a brand new Land Star for $150 and sold it for $200. All in all a great weekend.

(Sorry you didn't make it Captain Hook, but family comes first. Next Time)

Awesome!! sounds like it was a fun hunt.

It was a lot of fun and met a lot of folks and hung out with some of them. Too bad this is the last year they are doing the Daytona Beach shootout.

I sure wish I had a video camera, some of the folks that were swinging may have covered and inch. Some were going so fast, it was a nice breeze. But because of the two factors about six people pasted up the winng token - silver dime, that is how I got the $100,000 silver bill.

Great finds. Likely thought the silver bill was a can, im sure it rang in loud. I had a discussion just the other day with a member about compatition hunts with the Explorer. How did you hunt the area? Reduced sensitivity.... pattern....or your normal settings? Did they give you advanced info on what types of coins or metal you would be looking for? Did you use you X-1 or just locate by sound? Thats one thing ive not done yet, but they have one coming up here in Brownstown, IN in July.

I turned down the sens to 10. Other then that I used my normal settings with fast on. I didn't bother looking at the screen I went by sound. I didn't get any advance on the coin type. They used all types from Mexican pesos, older pennies, nickels, quarters, and halves. The silver bill was won when I found a dime with a sticker on the back. I only used the probe once, for some reason the coin kept running from me.

IN the hunts, most coins are 2-4 inches (this was in the sand) I would practice in your yard and stick some coins in the ground, or let someone else do it. Then practice, change settings and practice more.

It was real funny watching some of these guys swing their coils. This was a class on how not to detect. Oh, some joker took small pieces of gum wrapper, folded them up and balled them up and put them all over. No problem for me, I knew the sound, if I saw it I picked it up and check the area again.

Bryce, this was a great time. It was great getting to talk with others that enjoy detecting. I made some new friends.
I learned a lot from Tom Dankowski about beach hunting during normal conditions and storm seasons
It is to bad that this was the last hunt for the GSBS in Daytona..
