DD coil for CZ-20

I know this forum is mostly for PI machines. I was hopeing that someone on here might have enough technical knowledge to help me figure out how to build a 10" DD coil for a CZ-20. Mark

This would most likely be best on the modification forum. they are a few who have done it there.
I do have a question though, why would you need such a coil for the CZ-20 ??
DD's are realy designed for handling the problems of mineralized soil, giving up some discrimination ability, and sensitivity in the process.
The CZ-20 handles the salt mineralization quite well, so that wouldn't be the problem ????
Just being nosey, no dis-respect meant. <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

Bill, I figured that with a DD coil I would get better coverage, like I do with my Excaliber. Also, since the DD coils handle the mineralization better. I thought that it would allow me to turn my disc. sensitivity higher than I can with my concentric coil, while hunting in the saltwater. Here in NW FL I can only run my disc. sens. up to 4 1/2 with out getting an over abundance of false signals. I might be thinking wrong but I thought I would try and build a coil anyway to see what happens. Mark

Hi Mark,
It's easy to build coils for PI's since the Tx and Rx coils don't need to be balanced inductively, but for an IB/VLF type, it gets much more critical.
Have a look at Carl Moreland's website and download the file about the Magnun IB detector. (link below)
I know this isn't a DD coil, but it may help to convince you that it will take quite some experimentation.
Also, look on the metal detector projects page of Carl's site there is a file written by Dave Emery showing how to make a co-planar coil, this will give some more hints as to what's involved.
Cheers
Kev.
