Do a Google search on "Smitten with joy" and you will see it is commonly used in a good, positive way.

as you say Google shows it to be used....I do not live my life for Christ according to Google but instead by God's Word - the Bible.

The "training" is paideuouca in Greek and means "disciplining" or "hitting."

In the Greek days in which the Scriptures were written, to "discipline" a child was to "hit" the child or "smite" the child.

So, the saving grace of God hits or smites us, in a good way.
