Decent Mercury

Went back to another pounded spot today for a while and got this nice 1916 Mercury Dime. I thought this one was going to be a Memorial Penny at about 4 inches but turned out not to be and about 7 inches at that. I almost didn't dig it because we had pounded that area so much in the past I figured it was a shallow penny. I should have put the stock coil on to see what it would do. Maybe next time. I stood there for several seconds and considered not checking to see if it was a D until I got home but curiosity finally got the best of me!
 
too bad there is no "D" on the reverse! Great find, and in pretty good condition too. Congratulations.

I have 5 16s and no D <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry"> . Still nice find.

that fateful day last fall. I never even looked at the back to see...like the chances of it being a D was a snowballs chance in hell. I will never forget my dads face that evening when I asked him to look up a 16 D merc in his redbook. Man dreams do come true. 16 Ds are out there to find. Someone else on this forum dug one a year or so ago too. It helps having the best machine on the planet. Nothing else would have touched mine. It was deep.
