I have been latey introduced the wonderfull world of Minelab, EX-II to be exact.I have been a DFX user for 5 years now.Should i set the DFX aside and go for a EX-II.? Why ?

Why, let's see. Do want to find more silver? If you answered yes to that question, then get an Explorer.

Jerry/Oregon

P.S.
I plan on coming with Chris and Tom on there next trip out east.

Cool Jerry, Chris' next trip will be in about 4-5 weeks. We missed a call from Chris yesterday and he left a message sayin that he's ready to return. Does this mean we need to make room fer 3 this time ? Tho I don't think Tom is makin this one.Either way, we look forward to meetin ya and yer welcome to hang yer hat, and yer Minelab in our home anytime. If yer a freind o' them two fellers then ya jist gotta be good folk..

Lately our Novembers have pretty much been indian summers, ya jist never know, regardless tho, even if it's a winter coat day, the dirt don't hardly freeze 'round here til late December/January. jist bring yer duofolds jist in case and we'll fill the thermoses with my homemade chicken soup and swing and dig all we can.

If you are satisfied with finding the amount of coins and such with your previous White's DFX, then stick with it, but if you want to start finding all the good stuff the White's and all the other brand detectors miss, then get an Explorer. I know that I wouldn't own anything else other than a Minelab and my postings is proof of what the Explorer Model is capable in worked out area's. But don't take my word for it. If you decide to get a Minelab Explorer though, Congrat's on your purchase, welcome to the Explorer Forum and get ready to dig deep and find coins you thought were no longer at your old site's.

borrow one of Chris or Tom's - see if you can swing it for your normal amount of time in field. If you have trouble with it - pass!

My DFX hasn't seen any action since I got my EXII. Just disappointed that the SE came out 4 months after I got the II. I have had great results w/ both machines, although I believe I have done a bit better with the Explorer. I think it is a better fit to my hunting style, and doesn't seem to require quite as much futzing for optimal performance.

I have been swingin one o' "Chris' or Toms'" fer the past 3 weeks, i am allready used to the weight AND i have found silver in spots that i hunted a lot with my DFX.
So far. it SLAMS my DFX.Guess it's a no brainer from here huh?
Man, i hope you had as much enjoyment with them fellers as Janet and i did. They will be back here in few weeks.

Good honest opinion Crash, thanx bud.I haven't had the energy yet to take 'em both afield and compare, but i will.

well current hype on SE and the sudden proliferation of mysterious new-comers plugging the SE aside, there really is no comparison between the two machines (EX II and DFX).

I think if Chris and Tom lived in this area - we do some major coin butt-kicking together. Course when Chris says he gonna hunt for half a day - he means 12 hours. *L*
have fun! HH@!

I bought an Explorer II a while back and I really like it. Prior to that I was using an XLT with Jimmy Sierra's Bigfoot coil. At first I was going to sell the XLT and Bigfoot. However, I decided that they both have their place. Since much of my hunting is in newer parks where the coins are near the surface, the XLT / Bigfoot combo can't be beat. Now when I go over to Daytona or Ormond Beach, there is no contest. The Explorer II is the way to go.

So I guess it depends on where you like to hunt. If you need the depth, go with the Explorer II. For a casual hunt where depth isn't important to you, maybe you should use your tried and true machine. Aww, just keep them both. That's what I did and for me, I think it was the right decision.

Heck many do well with a DFX and its a tweekers dream..Explorer on the other hand for those that don't get fancy is easy to setup and when you get those silver coins from the beat areas am sure it will be a keeper...Many detectorists that can afford it have more than one so why not keep both as it would make a good combo....
Sort of like comparing apples and oranges and do get an Explorer as you won't be sorry....
