I am new to pulse work. Will a deepstar or aquastar go 6to 7 feet on large stuff cannons ,cannon balls ,iron straped chests ,anchors etc. or should I use a hand held magnetometer.Some sites are shallow water and others sand islands with some trash lead bullets shotgunshells etc.

my Deepstar will pick up a Cannon at 7feet in wet sand and 3feet on a 6lb steel cannon ball
reject setting was on minimum.
But im very interested to know how are you going to dig that deep?

Hi Rob,
I presume that is with the 11in coil. If that is not enough for anyone, there is always the 15in coil.

Hi Eric,
I was only using your original Deepstar 11" coil
to search the beach, it penetrates much further than I can dig by spade anyway.

Thanks for the reply Rob;I have a site where a Spanish Galleon rolled over a Island after a hurricane and broke up:Today most of what could be found is under deep sand on the island ,to track the path for any recovery would require a deepseeker or hand held mag,it seems like the Deepstar would be more flexable.

I think the Deepstar will give you a better mental picture of what lies below because it will locate the Bronze cannon as well as any gold or silver items and help to indicate more about objects sizes by how far you have to swing the coil,

Thanks Rob,what you are saying makes sense on swing I guess you get a longer pulse on a canon then a coin; but would you need a 15 or 11 inch for best results and can you tell iron from bronze
??
Again I am new to pulse work and the machines like Erics cost a lot more than others and I want the best and from what I have read he is.

Hi EO,
When I go looking for unknown wreck sites down at our beaches some 2miles out at low water mark I take my tiny GPS (Garmin etrex summit) to log my track and waypoint positions of the big signals, I drag a homemade 6 foot X 2.5Foot door frame style of coil around connected to an old P.I. I built years ago that has a visual strength meter, this helps me spot large clusters of strong signals in the big general area that could be big chunks of iron like cannon and the sheets of copper that were fitted to the timber hulls to prevent seaworm,
then I take the deepstar with standard 11" coil back (using GPS to find the main areas again) to locate the smaller items around the site by ear,
you can't discriminate between metal types but you can reject small non ferros items like the thousands of brass nails that held the copper on
I generally dig everything on a wreck site as it all helps untangle all the little clues about life on board at that time when she sank.
on return I plug the GPS into my PC running a programe called Gartrip 2.03 and get a professional looking print out of my site
showing all the map coordinates distance/time and height of of my finds above or below sea level
My only problem is digging up anything big further than 2 foot down by hand!
