I have a good idea what it is, but wanted to share it with all of you.
Found in a park at about 10" deep.
Think south, waaay south of here.
The squares are 2/10" (graph paper). It is really dirty silver, or pewter, or ?. At one time, there was a loop or something soldered to the back, at the top and bottom center.
I was thinking partridge until my brother in law told me what it really was. I think it's kind of neat...

at least I think it was the Aztecs they would find there home when they saw an cactus on a rock in the middle of a lake with an eagle perched on it devouring a snake. That lake would later become Mexico City.

Yes, it is a Mexican Emblem. However, the current flag and emblem is slightly different. I did find a website that had old coins which used this emblem back in the late 18's - early 19's, so I'm guessing it's pretty old.
Good Answer!!
Thanks,
Jim
