Deep trash

Hello gentlemen. I'm a first time poster. I've been MDing for 30 years with Whites and ML primarily. I've had the XP for a few months. It is so cutting edge, I'm continually blown away. This week I visited a REALLY trashy area at an old school I've worked since I was a kid. Was able to pull 14 more coins with the XP even though I thought I had it cleaned out. But here's my problem. I like to hunt old house sites and am really having issues with large, deep copper or steel trash that rings up like coins. I have a program next to my primary programs that really is good at screening nail falsing and bottle caps and I also utilize the visualization screen for these varmints, but these don't seem to be as effective for the aforementioned items. Does anyone have a suggestion how I might cut down on these pests? At least in the days I was primarily a relic hunter, I delighted in digging everything, but now the one consolation I can take is that I can sell the junk to the scrap yard and buy a good steak!

deep copper I have no solution for that as it might be a deep lg cent. Dig it. lol congrats and welcome.

Like Calabash, I love the sound of deep copper. Occasionally I will run into a patch of bits of old copper flashing that will annoy the crap out of me, but if it is small and deep, it's getting dug. Deep iron will fool you too. Other than ignoring it if it seems a bit too big to be a coin, I've got to dig it up even when I have my doubts. Sometimes you can get deep iron to reveal itself as iron using 4 kHz. When you figure out how to definitively tell the difference between good and bad on those deep tricky targets, write a book and I will be the first to buy it.

Part of where you like to dig is the problem your going to have with copper and other metals that are not keepers. When some of us hunt we become trash diggers we want to sift through a lot of the trash even though I burn out faster. When hunting for relics we sometimes have to just dig it all and see what we get. It's the keepers that make it worth it and they are in there you just have to dig to know for sure.

SOMETIMES I can get deep iron to reveal itself by doing the wiggle back method of pinpointing. sometimes you can hear the iron grunt as you are pulling away but it is not infallible. other than that unfortunately you just have to dig..

Thanks for the suggestions yall. I actually use the 4kHz a lot and am able to avoid too much iron. Its mainly pieces like copper piping buried really deep that give me problems. I know that a coin will register at the depth on the meter. I know I have a larger object if I dig a couple of inches past my depth reading on the meter and the pinpointer picks up the electromagnetic field over the entire hole. Guess I'll just have to dig it out to know for sure.

Deep copper,,,,,all you can do,,,is a pinpoint for size,,,or determine if signal is usually strong,,via audio,,horseshoe indication.

For small deep copper junk,,,,you are SOL.

For steel cans, etc,,,4khz may reveal.

Deep copper,,,sounds like a nice problem to have actually.

Cheers
