I am constantly stewing about whether or not I will miss a deep coin with my Omega because of the weak audio. Today I went to a park where my deepest coins ever were in the 8 to 9 inch range. I found a silver dime here a couple of weeks back that was about 7 inches deep. The high tone on that coin was barely audible, but it was a slight high pitched whine. It's hard to explain what I am hearing, but it is not a tick or whisp of a signal. I run into troulble trying to remember or figure out a deep coin signal because they don't happen as much as I would like them to. On a deep coin I will listen for this quick high pitched whine and look for numbers that match a coin. I am getting a 82 -84 number that sometimes repeats on these deep coins. Today, I got a faint(and I mean faint) high tone, along with some 84 numbers. There were also some mid and low tones within a couple of inches. I could isolate the high tone and I had a feeling that there was a good coin in the mess. I first found a square tab at about 5 inches and when I stuck in the Pistol probe, I got a deeper signal. From 8 to 9 inches comes a very nice 1943 merc. I re swept the hole and got an iron grunt about 4 inches off to the side. I have no doubt the iron and tab were masking the merc. I am very pleased with how the Omega with the 11 inch dd coil can find coins with trash nearby. I am also starting to be more confident in recognizing a deep signal. After experimenting with the sensitivity settings for the last 6 hours or so, I have found it imperitive to run the sens as high as you can in order to find coins over 8 inches deep. My settings today: ground balance 59, sens 81, disc 15, three tones. R.L.
