Deepstar/aqustar

Which of the two goes deeper on small items like a ring? Which goes deeper on a larger item like a liter size jar of coins? Whats the largest coil for either unit that is available or that can be special ordered?
Also how deep does the SD2200 discrimination of small iron surface objects go?
Also can the deepstar or aquastar be modified to give a All Metal nonmotion responce like the Garrett GTI2500? So as to out line your target. To see its size before digging? Thanks Guys!

Hi John,
Answering your questions in order:- The Aquastar goes deeper on very small, thin or poorly conductive items. e.g. ear ring posts, thin chains, thin, and sometimes, broken rings. It does not go deeper than the Deepstar on medium, large, or normally conductive objects. That is, if both detectors have the same size coil. The largest coil for the Aquastar is 10in diameter. This is because of the need to balance high sensitivity against the problem of detecting wet sand and seawater when wading. The largest standard coil for the Deepstar is 15in, but specials can be made up to 3ft square or 24 x 8in rectangular. Deepstar coils will not work on an Aquastar at the shortest pulse delay because the inductance is different. You could of course turn the pulse delay back, then you would reach a point where they would work.

John, I'm no authority on this, just a happy user, but since no one's responded I'll try to give you a few answers.
AFAIK, Deepstar and Aquastar are quite similar (besides Aquastar being in a waterproof enclosure). I believe Aquastar has a bit shorter minimum pulse delay, which I think would equate to being a touch more sensitive to smaller, low conductive items like small gold rings. I think in practice though the two detectors are quite similar. If Terry is listening he can probably give you some real world examples of this sensitivity as he's an avid Aquastar user.
If you're looking for a jar of coins, then I don't know, since I believe Eric builds the Deepstar/Aquastar to be most sensitive to gold items. For silver items the pulse delay probably should be longer and there may be more optimizations that I don't have a clue about.
I bet if you wanted a big coil, like 4ft x 4ft Eric could build you one. Probably would work good for cache hunting, but then again Eric might have a unit especially designed for this, I don't know.
From what I've seen, the SD iron disc. works on larger iron items that are within about 3 inches of the surface, but small items, like hairpins, etc. that are deeper will get through like Reg eluded to.
As far as no-motion all-metal mode, I haven't a clue, but I'm sure Eric can tell us what's involved in making that kind of mod.
You won't find a better company and person to deal with than Eric and his company. When it comes to PI and high quality "he's da man" and quality is second to none. He and Mr. Bill have always been there for me even before I bought my Deepstar.
Good luck,
-J
