This report was posted by Ray Glazer on my Technology Forum. Thought it would be worth repeating here.
I have used my Surfmaster PI for about 6 years and it has been very good to me. I did the modifications to the PI and was impressed with the increased performance with small items. The average depth in wet saltwater runs about 9 inches. I have recently obtained a Deepstar and have been out about 6 times with it. I normally run it at low power with sensitivity at about 2 o'clock. This is as far as I can comfortably dig with my Beachbrute. I need a scoop with about 6 more inches in depth or a long shovel. I have fount targets in excess of 12 inches with these settings. My best find was a large wedding band - 9.75 grams. The smallest ring came in at 0.8 grams, with the name "Barbie" inscribed on it. The Deepstar is also very good at finding very fine chains. I would say that the depth of the Deepstar is Twice that of the PI and the Sensitivity is just outstanding. I hunt the southern beaches of New Jersey.
