Deepstar saves the beach!

Ok, this time of year, out here in CA, there's not many people on the beach. There's even less gold in the sand. This morning I hit the beaches even though it was high tide, and even though there weren't many beachgoers this weekend, but I hadn't been detecting in a while and just wanted to get out and see the waves for a bit. One silver ring, 2 pennies, a dime and this needle. Now it was only down about 3 inches, but I did get a good signal on it and I thought it might be a small earring or something. If the string wouldn't have been on it I would have had a much harder time trying to find it though in the scoop!
Anyway, the beach is now safer without this needle waiting to poke some kid's foot. Just thought you'd all like to see what types of things come out sometimes...

Well that certainly finds the small items.
Eric manufactures a piece of equipment that does just that, look for broken needle points in fabric as it rolls on to the spool.

Imagine finding 1mm (0.04in) broken off the tip of the needle in Jeff's picture. That's what you have to find in fabric. Not the sort of sensitivity you would want on the beach, although you would find a single link from the finest gold chain
Eric,

Hi Houndawgg,
I've never seen one, but I believe there are scoops with built in magnets that hold the bobby pins.
Eric.
