TWF,
I believe that the Deepstar 3 will have about 2" to 3" depth advantage on <FONT COLOR="#ff0000">medium sized gold rings</FONT>.
The depth advantage on smaller section gold rings may be about the same....please correct me if I'm wrong anyone <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt="

The depth advantage on copper, silver and clad coins/silver rings will probably be more significant with the DS3, especially when the Pulse Width is set to 100uS.
I like the extra user adjustable controls (Volume/Tone/Range/Pulse Width/TX Frequency), all can be tweaked depending on how big a breakfast you have just consumed <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">

It looks to be a very nice piece of kit.
I'll keep my GQSS (waterproofed) for the shallow water and use the DS3 for the Complete Metal Extraction from the dry/wet sand <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt="

Sounds like a good name for a detector (CME)
Good luck with your choice,
