DEEPSTAR vs GOLDQUEST SS

Hi Guys
I have read all the reports about the new Deepstar and need a question answering in plain english , not techno speak ( lol )
I have my Goldquest up for sale and am contemplating buying the new Deepstar....
I expect to get about

TWF,
I believe that the Deepstar 3 will have about 2" to 3" depth advantage on <FONT COLOR="#ff0000">medium sized gold rings</FONT>.
The depth advantage on smaller section gold rings may be about the same....please correct me if I'm wrong anyone <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">
The depth advantage on copper, silver and clad coins/silver rings will probably be more significant with the DS3, especially when the Pulse Width is set to 100uS.
I like the extra user adjustable controls (Volume/Tone/Range/Pulse Width/TX Frequency), all can be tweaked depending on how big a breakfast you have just consumed <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">
I've got my eye on one, but not just yet <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry">
It looks to be a very nice piece of kit.
I'll keep my GQSS (waterproofed) for the shallow water and use the DS3 for the Complete Metal Extraction from the dry/wet sand <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">
Sounds like a good name for a detector (CME)
Good luck with your choice,
Tony. <IMG SRC="/metal/html/ausflag.jpg" BORDER=0 width=32 height=17 ALT="au~">

Tony, what you belive on deapth, is that a fact, or your view on the matter,if it is fact where are you getting these results from please <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

Hi Tony
You answered the question quite well. I would say the depth difference would be at least what you said. There

Thx Tony & Mr Bill after your missiv's I think I'll stick with what I have, I used to own a Deepstar
Keep digging those deep Soup can lids

Hi Tony,
In fact the new Deepstar uses the ciruit board from the Aquastar, which is currently out of production due to unavailability of cases. The original Deepstar and the new Deepstar 3 use the same circuit topology, but, as always, with improvements which feedback from customers, and developments in electronics, make for a better machine.
The improvements are:- Two pounds lighter in weight and longer operating life between charges, due to the use of Nimh batteries. Belt mounted rather than chest mounted. Built in switchable probe. More user adjustments for both beach conditions and personal preferences. All this plus some circuit improvements to give a smoother threshold and improved coil winding technology.
All this may not result in any dramatic difference in detection range than the earlier Deepstar, but with the extra lightness, battery life, wider range of settings and quick pinpointing with the probe, your chances of finding more gold over the earlier model must be greater. As has been said, you would expect 2 - 3in gain in range on a medium ring over the Goldquest SS. Sometimes more, sometimes less, as in the field there are many other variables that can affect detector performance, as you know.
Eric.

Have a look at Terry's post "Deep find with Aquastar" of 23rd Oct. Same circuit, same power, although the Deepstar runs at 15uS delay rather than 10uS. This will mean a loss in sensitivity for the very small targets i.e. ear ring posts and small chains, but not for targets like the Hawaiian rings. The Deepstar 3 uses an 11in coil, which will give an increase in range over the 10in, so Terry could have found that ring even deeper, maybe.
Eric.

Tony,
Make no mistake.....I will be getting the Deepstar 3 when funds are at hand...curse our weak "South Pacific Peso"....against the pound !
Seriously, I have spoken at length to a couple of guys in the USA over the last year or so, who have Deepstars. We have compared notes on the depth of gold rings of the same weight, profile and gold content.
Based on a "just diggable signal", the depth advantage on one particular gold wedding band was 4" to the Deepstar....that is a BIG advantage on the wet hard pan. I know it's a bit hard to make this comparison with two different operator's in two different parts of the world, but we both had agreed upon the strength of signal needed in order "to dig".
Hopefully I'll have something in my Christmas stocking to get excited about...better start talking to the big guy in the red suit and black boots. <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin">
