Got a story for you. I was out riding around one day and saw some construction going on in a farm field and the house that was probably built around 1890 or so had been dozed over and hauled off.It was in the evening and the 2 guys doing the job were just getting in there trucks so I pulled in and talked to them for a minute and told them about the civil war activity around the area and asked if they minded if I swing my detector for awhile.well one of the guys says sure go ahead and look but you wont find nothing! So I obviously asked him why? he said man we done got it all then the other guy starts acting real weird at that moment saying they might work a little longer and maybe I should come back tomorrow . Then the first guy says man we are through let him hunt we got to get it 's quitting time. While he was saying this he reached inside the truck and pulls out a stack of Morgan dollars about 20-25 as far as I could tell and when he did I saw the dates in the 1880's and 1890's on the ones I could see before he pulled them back real quick. Then he said see I told you we got it .Then he said show him your's so the other guy hesatates for a moment then grabs his booty out of the truck they were rolled up in a oil cloth. He had as many as the other guy .Then the friendly feller says we got all these when we pushed the house there was a blue mason jar that busted and the coins spilled out on the ground I happened to see them before they were ran back over on the next push.

I said they were probably under the house since the early 1900's he said yeah you're right none of them were past 1901.And as I was standing there thinking of the thrill of the find the other guy speaks up and says no we found them down there next to the creek then the other feller says hey man you crazy we found them right there just 20 minutes ago.

anyway they said they were leaving and said hunt around all I want. I walk over to were old house sat and I could see there footprints and scratching all around in one spot and presto a blue mason jar busted around on the ground.I thought to my self here we go after about 3 hours of hunting I had one silver mercury dime so then I go down to the creek and no signs of foot traffic there so those lucky jokers got ever last one of the Morgans !How I dont know but they did or I just couldnt hear one

I took my dime and went home and hunted a few times after that at different intervals and no silver no where!!!!!

But it does go to show those stories you hear are true sometimes!!!!

Happy Hunting

Keith

Keith,
its all about being in the right spot at the right time.
If it was me and my luck, I would not have been lucky enough to have found the dime...

One of my hunting friends, was out hunting, and he kicked a dirt clod, and out popped a 1916 D Merc. dime, and just the other day he saw about 1/8 of a 1906 Barber half sticking out of a pile of dirt. Some are lucky.

Some good....I'll call them Coin piles as there were no containers (one was a tin can) left so i do check all signals around old homes and it pays off
both in removing the junk that covers the coins underneth them and finding the good old canning jar lids with jars attached
