Delta 4000 observations...........

Ivan

New member
Great little machine..but really poor depth in mineralized soil. In one area I got 8" on a U.S./ Canadian quarter......a few miles down the road... about half that!! Motto of the story........buy a detector with an adjustable ground balance it is worth the few extra bucks. A pre set ground balance is like a car with a speed limiter...........couldn't live with either of those. LOL

It's preset to what value ? I thought the Delta had a ground balance that adjusted automatically depending on ground conditions... Bummer. I have ground conditions that vary a lot in just a few mile radius. Typical values are 65 to 88. To me that's a pretty big gap for relatively short distances.

Hello Ivan, too bad you didn't go one more level up with the Gamma 6000. That one has a manual GB, with the instant "ground grab" also. The Bounty Hunter Platinum is basically the same machine as the 6000. (better value)

Ground balance seems to me, to be one of those features that is overlooked by many, or at least not given the level of importance it should receive. Both you and dfmike have emphasized it's importance, with your considerable ground phase changes in short distances.

Ivan, if you are running a stock concentric coil, you may want to try a DD coil. They are known to handle mineralization better. Hopefully that can help mitigate your problems in hotter ground a bit.

I have always appreciated the ground phase readout on many First Texas machines. It is an important, and useful bit of information.
