Delta all metal modes:shrug:

What is the difference between the 2 all metal modes [A1 & A2] on the Delta? The manual I have doesn't say much... Want to get out tomorrow and try the 5''. Hope to post some finds afterwards.:)

Thanks, Eric.

A2 is a more friendly all metal mode in my opinion
A1 is wider and more sensitive to ground minerals, at least in my area ( it sounds off with every sweep)

A2 screams out over any type of metal

On page 14 of the Owner's Manual is states the basic differences between A1 and A2 All Metal modes. If you don't mind I'll break down the design differences:

A1.. The deepest-seeking All Metal mode, but it is set to handle milder ground mineralization.

A2.. Is designed to handle higher iron mineralization, and it also incorporates a faster auto-tune speed. It gets a little less depth than the A1 All Metal mode, but in 'bad ground' it might provide the better all-around performance.

The beauty of these two All Metal modes is that the operator can just quickly access either of them and, since the Delta's Ground Balance is factory preset for most encountered conditions, the operator can decide which works for them the best.

There is also a functional difference in performance that the operator has control over, and that is the ability to set the Sensitivity level for all three operating mode independent of the others. Yes, the Delta let's you set the Sensitivity for the turn-on Discriminate mode, and it can be the same or different from the A1 All Metal mode, and that can also be different from the Sensitivity level you set for the A2 All Metal mode. This allows a user who learns their Delta to tailor all three models so that the desired Sensitivity level works for their site.

I did not know that Monte
I thought A1 and A2 shared the dame sensitivity
I'll check that out!

Thanks Monte for the explanation. Guess I overlooked the manual a little. I tried to use the all metal modes but they seemed erratic on my last hunt. I was very close from power lines though.

I used the 5 inch coil and was quit happy with it during the 2 hour hunt. They only thing is that I used it on farmland and I better took the stockcoil there. Too much land to cover. I did made some finds but I was impressed with the small coil for sure. This field contains artifacts from the Celtic/Roman era until 1900.

The oldest coin I found is from the 18th century. On the pictures are uncleaned items. Few buttons, muskettballs and some coins.

Went out today and searched in A1 metal mode
I haven't paid much attention to this mode since it seems to sound off allot but after reading what Monte had to say, i thought i would put it to the test.
Each swing produced a reading of about 35 - 40 but when there was something there, the meter would jump into action, weather it be a higher number or lower.

I got use to the "mineral Sound" and was able to hear passed it and pick up on the subtle changes caused by objects.
Something else i thought was interesting / A1 could see a very old bottle cap at approx 5 inches / A2 mode chirped a little bit and discrimination did not not pick it up.

I'm really looking forward to getting back to the farm field where i have found large caliber bullets and giving A1 mode a shot.
The 8 inch coil seems bigger in some strange way and targets good or bad seem to be easier to hit on.

Thanks Monte for your wisdom

Very interesting what you say about A1... have to give this a shot next time on a farmfield!

Hit a tot lot today made of wood chips
was able to run A1 wide open and it was very quiet
also went to a farm field and the noise wasn't bad at all

definitely finding more coins in this mode
this may be contributed to swinging the coil slower to here the response from targets.

Thanks, Guess I will try that next sunday when I find a field without powerlines in the direct area. I really had to turn down the sensitivity to 8. I'm looking forward to seriously try the A1 mode.

The Delta is an excellent 'basic' detector with factory preset Ground Balance but designed with two 92) All Metal modes to help us deal with some different ground mineral environments. It does help make it usable to search in All Metal, but it won't perform at the same level as an upscale model, such as the Gamma or Omega, that provide us with manual or automated Ground Balance for proper tuning and peak performance.

Use the Delta in one or both All Metal modes, if you're able, just don't expect peak results in more challenging conditions.
