Depth readings from the F75's

WV62

Well-known member
I have had four F75's and 3 out of the 4 seemed to exaggerate the depth readings on coins no matter the coil size. The 1 that seemed to give better readings with the 11" coil, but with the little 5" and the 6.5" coil it would exaggerate. I haven't tested to see how much it is off but when I get a reading on a coin that says 9" and I dig it, it will be at about 6". So I am thinking it is off by about 3"

Just thought I would check and see if others have noticed these exaggerated readings. Also wondering if this is something I should be talking to FT about?

I have two f-75's and the depth isn't accurate. If it reads 12" and there is a coin down there, it's usually a measured 9". The shallower the coin is, the more accurate it reads...just the nature of the beast....no biggie, no reason for alarm.

The center of the coil under the little mark on top is the best bet for getting the most accurate reading.. You have to detune some to get it exactly under the right area.. It also depends on the angle of the target in the ground... slanted coins never read properly on depth......... Plus other items are not accurate either. It is calibrated for coin size targets only..

Thanks guys, I have been doing the detuning to get my center and then pulling off center retune and then come back to the center for depth. I will need to pay more attention to coin angle. I am glad if it is off that it is reading deeper than actual, I just need to remember when it says one thing just back off the difference and dig. I was actually without a F75 for about a year so I am a little rusty.

I had that little NEL shooter coil (I think it is about a 5.5" x 9") on for 3 or 4 hours the other day and it seems to not have near the EMI problems and from what I could tell it was getting good depth.

You're not crazy--everyone else just won't admit it. It's a "software " issue meaning FT doesn't have a fix for it. I even sent pics to FT with my 75ltd while they had it in for repair and they told me I didn't know how to pinpoint even though a dozen people in my club had verified the exact same thing---lost Fisher several sales in the long run. Error is about 2" until about 5" when it begins to expand. I have dug a few coins at 5" that will read 8". I find many surface coins that I can locate with my propointer that will pinpoint at 3 and 4"on the 75

From the very first F75 until now the depth reading is off a little, but, in my ground (red Virginia dirt) if I find a coin that says it is 8" deep, then I'm looking for it to be about 6 6 1/2" deep. This is not bad for my area. But, but, but I've found some of the most valuable items with the F75 so all is well with me.

My first F75Ltd/se that I got in 2010 didn't seem to have the power (depth) that the later ones have, but when I got a reading saying 7" and a good coin signal I could plan on a coin at 6". Now I call that pretty close.

Since that first Ltd I have had 2 used standard F75's and just a few weeks ago I got another new Ltd/se model, and all 3 read about the same on depth, and that would mean 9"=6". I can deal with that, I just was thinking being this last one is new maybe it needed to go back for repairs or adjustments. But it sounds like I am in the same boat with the rest of you guys.

Depth reading air to ground testing for the F75LTd
Detector settings, factory reset plus ground balanced using the 11

While censorship isn't the goal here "AT ALL" some things just can't stand..

Feedback is for issues with the company.. Name calling isn't cool either.

Either contact FT or post your complaints to the company in feedback..

Thanks All......... have a great weekend and a Happy Easter..

Well that pretty much destroyed this thread.
At least we determined that the pinpoint depth on the 75's are inaccurate :)

That is a fairly normal depth, actual depth reading.

Has anyone tried a 10" coil and checked for the depth reading accuracy ? Just curious if that made it more accurate than the DD coil.

Can't help with that one, I don't have that coil.

I've never noticed it being off more than an inch (11" DD coil). This is from known targets in my test garden.
