Depth with the 5.75 concentric coil

WV62

Well-known member
I now have a 5.75 concentric coil for my Tejon and was wondering what kind of depth I can expect? As soon as we get a little rain I will be able to take it to the park for some testing, just to dry right now. My hope is to make this little coil on the Tejon my gold jewelry hunter, hopefully down to about 5". The last man's gold wedding band I found was with the 9x8 coil and it was pretty close to 4 or 5" down.

I bought an Outlaw with 3 heads and using the 5.75 head I am not real impressed with the depth as of now,maybe will change my mind sometime.It just rained here in sw mo. about 3 1/2 in and grn is moist so far.I think the(cibola-Vaq-Tejon)is far deeper than the Outlaw,as have been using Tesoro's for some time and really like them. The 5.75 is a killer in trash and tot lots jmho. shortribs

I have found wheat pennies with my Cibola down around 4-5" with that coil. It may go deeper. That was in bone dry neutral ground conditions.

Hi Ron;

I use the 5.75 concentric coil on my Tejon most of time. On the depth I haven"t not had any difference. I don"t do tot lots. But I do new cont., curb and gutter, and anything old.
The coil works best if I go slower. That works for me.

If you're after a 5.75 coil for parks, consider getting a Compadre. For a little extra, you also have a detector that's excellent for parks.

The 5.75 on my Outlaw will hit dimes, solid, to 5.5 - 6 inches in the Disc Mode and 7+ inches in the All Metal Mode. This is about what I would expect for this detector and is just fine for my hunts in parks, picnic and sport areas. If I want to go deeper, I'll switch to the 8 inch or better yet, the 10 x 12 Wide Scan and go into the All Metal Mode. I certainly wouldn't use the 5.75 if I'm looking in an area the may hold a good target down to 8 inches or more. These results are from found targets, coins, in my local parks.

I put one of those on my V. and that thing rocks. I leave it on all of the time. It seem to be almost as deep as the stocker in air test and I found a penny the other day at 6.5 inches in my soil. It gives me lots of feedback. i.e. size and shape of a target. I love this coil. Only down side is if you are trying to hunt big areas or fast.

Thanks all, it looks like this little guy has got me covered with an inch or so to spare on depth. I have always been a big fan of the smaller coils in the right area. All I need to find is one more gold ring and this coil is paid for.

All in all I am pretty happy with the Tejon.

On either the Vaquero, or Tejon, with the GB set in middle, threshold maxed and sensitivity at ten, what is the AIR distance on a silver dime..Earphones and a solid signal.. I realize a lot of people play down the air distances, but there is no universal standard test to compare a detector with another in Maine or California...Then, iron content, moisture etc, mess life up for you...So, saying air tests don't matter or are worthless is an opinion that has no comparative value....So, generate honest numbers and let's see where the mop flops.. I am also wondering if one day you get 5.5 on a dime , the next day 7.5, and peeps saying 9.0 is where it is..Are we worst than the guys who catch fish???????.Which brings up a question, "Do metal detectors have bad hair days?" And, may the next color in the hole be golden..

Good advice. The Compadre is a master hunter in parks.
