Derrell was kind enough to take me to an old school

He had gotten permission a few days earlier and was dying to go before he and I had the chance, I said go for it(I wanted to see if he could even find anything:laugh:). He found a sweet Shield Nickel(1866) and a wheat cent. The first time we went I forgot my headphones and he had a cheapy set which I was gracious enough to break for him!! He did find a single Indian Cent(1891) and I was skunked by the youngster!!!:surrender:!!!. Third time was a charm for me as after digging 20 or so old shotgun shells and a couple trinkets(the largest piece was dug by Derrell) I found a nice Indian fatty dated 1863!! Decent condition coin and first fatty in a few years for me!! I'd like to thank Derrell for sharing that sweet site and enduring my charming personality!! You know, we all can get out and dig those clean signals, we can also find all sorts of goodies in virgin sites, but what I like about most of Derrells finds are they are deep and usually in with a piece of junk and you have to struggle to get that "wobbly(Thanks Bryce for the word)" jumpy, almost wondering if its a sweet sound chirp and see a piece of silver, old Indian or even a wheatie that has been passed over or ignored or not even heard!! Thats when you know your not missing much!!

lookin' for no "wobbling" coin.:smoke:  I'm looking one that makes a nice sweet "warbly" sound when I come accross it:thumbup:
Anyway...I'm just funin' ya'. ..but it's a nice, faint, high pitched "warble" that I listen for.
Very nice find on the fatty by the way. I've only found one of those critters in all my years of hunting. Congrats on that sweet oldie.
Nice of DoubleD to take you to his spot:thumbup:

Nice fattie Jack. I'm glad I'm not the only one Derrell skunked. I shouldn't have let Derrell test all those coins in my yard.:lmfao: He would never have known what a flying eagle, IH fattie or any of those other less common coins sounded like:) You guys will have to come up here sometime. Derrell will have to use a 5in coil though.lol

Im curious where on the digital scale the fatty fell? I say that because its hard to explain where a target falls on the smartscreen. If i remember correctly its somewhere around 08-12.

I don't use digital so to be honest I couldn't say!! I thought I was digging another shotgun shell and didn't check. When I assume I have a good find I do at times switch to digital, but unfortunately this wasn't one of the times!!

Jake you are a great friend of mine and ill take you to one of my spot's anytime!!! I have never had anyone turn down a invitation to a virgin area but you... I believe you said "Why don't you hunt it 4 or 5 times then take me, why should i go into your spot and find a old rare coin that could have been yours" That's a friend :beers:,,,If it was you asking me.., I would have jumped all over that offer!!! lol

Still looking for my first Fatty Injun myself and would be a blast to dig one. Looks like you both had fun and that is what detecting is all about. Having Fun! Good Luck and HH on your next hunt.:super:
