Designing a cache PI

After reveiwing Eric Fosters definations of each of the characteristics of PI in an earlier post it inspired this design question. If one is to design a cache hunting machine where all you are trying to find is buried pipes standing on end. Fist size and larger containers both deep and shallow. Would you create a detector with a longer Pulse delay, a pulse width greater than 150uS abd playing with the decaytime? Could the deepstar be modified to reflect my above parameters? Or can the deepstar be adjusted with its dials with its current design? Eric what widths, delays etc. would one have for a cache PI?
