Detecting at night ... show me the light.

I got started around 8PM. I met the volunteers who patrol the beach and they didn't even bat an eyelash. I also checked the regulations of the beach beforehand just to be safe. I only lasted 45 minutes. I was somewhat discouraged. What I need to do is set up a test bed and pound it to get to know this machine better. I remember 3 weeks ago or so I was not even using pinpointing (which I thinks sucks on the Explorer SE) and every signal I got I dug up and I got something. All of it was junk but it was encouraging. I was at the beach last night and I was getting all kinds of signals and I dig every time and NOTHING! I bought a headlight. They work great as you can see where you're MD and when u start digging it frees up your hands to dig. I KNOW the SE can find things because I see it every day on this forum and I know it's a good machine.

The beach does get quite dark BUT there are always people on it well into the night. I am going to go to another beach I know and set up a test bed and pound it until I get confident on where I should be digging. Any word of inspiration would be appreciated.

Here is the light I bought:

nice thing about this product too is that it has a lifetime guarantee. Not bad for 14 dollars at WalMart.
