:detecting:Explorer 2 emulator questions

Prior to ordering a Explorer SE, I played around with the Explorer 2 emulator on line and liked what I saw,(actually heard). I have been lucking around reading your postings and am now feeling a little buyers remorse on choosing the SE. I still have not received it and reading the latest postings now think I should have bought a Explorer 2. MY question, is there a lot of difference between my SE and the Explorer 2 emulator sounds? I foolishly did not think there would be a big difference. Still excited on trying Minelab however, as disappointed in my latest detector on the iron laden property in my area as it was more like work and wanted to get back to the joy of dirt fishing again. I really enjoyed my first detector (a Compass many years ago) which was a beep and dig machine. As I worked up to my latest detector, I found I wasn't enjoying it as much due to falsing. I would begin digging with high expectations only to be disappointed 99 percent of the time. This roller coaster of emotions was draining to my enjoyment of the hobby. I would rather dig with no expectations and be surprised finding something good, than digging and being disappointed. My favorite machine at this time is a older Whites mainly because it doesn't lie to me often. The draw back is it doesn't have the dept that I need to find the older items :detecting:i now want. My second question is am I expecting to much from the high end machines?

The emulator gives clean hits on known targets. In real world there is a lot more sounds to deal with. It will be harder to decipher than the whites at first and you may feel like "what the heck is this thing saying". You will probably flip back and forth to the whites to stay in your comfort zone for a while, but after some retraining of your ears things will begin to come together. I only have had my EXII for one year , and I am pretty confident in it now, but it is never as cut and dry as the vlf machines. Nobody but you knows what you are expecting, But I think its safe to say that you will pull some silver from your pounded spots by the third hunt..just my twocents..I see just as many people prefer the SE, as do the EXII. Coming in to the SE as a first time explorer user may be better than upgrading from the exII.
Everyone has second thoughts after plucking down big bucks for a new machine, but in metal detecting , you get what you pay for..Don't expect miracles, you will have to put in some effort ,but don't be surprised when you dig your first 10" dime or cent...if you are an all metal mode hunter , you will love the Explorer...HH ....LaDigger.

Thanks LaDigger
Its raining here and a major cold front moving in, so I'm playing on the puter indoors. What I meant to ask is there a big difference in the Explorer 2 and SE sounds? I am an all metal mode hunter and my main weapon now is a cz-3d. But I go to the Whites to get back to what I was referring to as a more enjoyable hunt. I sometimes think I should cover the displays and go back to the beep and dig machine mode.:starwars: I didn't want to hurt any feelings or start a huge debate on brands.:clapping: Still looking forward to trying my 1st Minelab.
Appreciate you response

I have ask the same question before, and the sounds are the same....VCO pinpointing is the major difference and threshold tone pitch can change to match last target, personally I think in trashy hunting that would get kinda busy, but I have never tried the SE so I guess it has a valid use in less trashy hunting.Pinpointing with the explorers are something that gets better with use..I get best results digging under the ears on the 1050 coil...An SE user should come in and give you some specific answers shortly.when I said all "metal mode hunter " . I didn't mean beep dig.I have had a few beep dig machines, not fun imo. On the contrary, the explorer in all metal or iron mask wide open will give you SO MUCH info that you may use that mode all the time, I do use it that way most all the time, with discing out nails sometimes .I don't like the nulling when using disc and overcame a lot of frustration at the beginning by opening up iron mask and using ferrous tones.I only hunt in Smart Screen and can tell a lot of targets before I dig them.I like using conductive sounds too at some coin hunting sites, but in iron trashy sites, ferrous can save you some grief when trying to learn this beast,,.. You will like it..HH

I guess I should further explain the 1st post of this thread. I started metal detecting almost thirty years ago, after getting back surgery and being required to walk 5 miles a day. I had the brilliant idea that if I detected in the woods, it would require me to work my back more and hopefully increase my healing. Well here it is too many years later and my back still hurts, but I miss the thrill of my first find. It was a axe head in the middle of the woods. As I said it was a beep and dig machine, but I was absolutely thrilled and amazed at my wonderful find. I was expecting nothing more than exercise and happy to find a axe head. I quit detecting for quite a few year and decide to start again for the exercise. While I haven't been super successful, I have found a few thing and perhaps I have become a little jaded. I also now start digging expecting to find wonderful treasures and am disappointed when I find a rusty nail or a water line sounding like a coin. I miss the feeling on my first find, and what everyone now would now consider trash. That is why I guess I am expecting to much from the high end machines. If you start digging expecting to find gold and find a beer tab, there is no thrill, just disappointment. That is what I mean expecting to much. Sorry guys, I am shut in today with bad weather and bored I guess. This is the wrong forum for this but I reaaly did want to know about the difference in the sounds om my pending Minelab.

If you really regret buying the SE.... I guess if you give me the SE and $100 I'll give you my Explorer II :)
