detecting in water?

hi there has anyone tryed using there machine in water, i read somewhere in the manual that the stock coil is waterproof up to 3/4 of a meter deep is this true? has anyone tryed it and how did it go? thanks Nick :)

The comment about the X-Terra coils being waterproof to 20 inches (1/2 meter and not 3/4 as you indicated) is taken from the X-Terra manuals. (second paragraph of "Care of your X-Terra). This distance is probably based on the premise that the detector control housing will not become wet at that distance. The point being, you don't want to get water in the control box as it is not waterproof. All of the coils, except the 6 X 10 Elliptical DD, are described by Minelab to be "waterproof". The Elliptical is described as "water resistant". I have submerged all of my coils, except the Elliptical, without a problem. For those using the Elliptical on or around the beach, sealing the seam with a silicon caulking material has been recommended by several on this forum. I just recently read (on another site) where someone had used his Elliptical in the water without sealing it. He had to stop his hunt when the coil became wet and wouldn't work. HH Randy

Diggers spot on. That 10x5 needs proper sealing. I did mine straight away when I got it, with clear silicone then to make double sure wrapped it in good quality insulation tape. Never had a prob. Have seen a couple which saw water without being sealed first and they were ruined.
