Detector pro pinpointer mess with the explorers or etracs?

The PP does have better performance than the X-1. You just have not used one. I know the depth of the X-1 and the PP has it by 2" more in the depth department and it does not weigh down your MD. The thing that the X-1 does have over the probe is that it is tied in with the ID capacity of the MD it is on and there is no chance of interference and having to adjust the frequency in such an event.

Another thing and this seems like I have only mentioned it and now this is second nature to me is that everytime I use the probe I have to slip one headphone off so I can hear the probe. Even at high tone it is hard to hear through headphones with the threshold and various other noises coming through your MD. might even consider getting some rattlessnale headphones for such a purpose. Many times I would forget to put the other headphone back on my right ear and I would just be listening with my left for the hunt.

On the uniprobe you can use a singe ear bud and just fit it under/inside of your ear piece on one ear.

If you are having problems with the UniProbe interfering with the Explorer, I would suggest calling Gary Storm at DetectorPro

Awww. I sold it. I really like it though. If you're certain I can get around the interference problem, I'll pick up another and work with the gentleman you mentioned. Thanks!

These are the ones that are built into the headphones and love them for my detectors i dont have a SunRay probe on. I like my SunRay probe better as it will disc and makes it easier to find the target in trash, but I do feel the UniProbe with the narrow probe feels better and may go a little deeper when set right. I have notice when the battery get a little low on my Uni Probe it is very unstable and I can not use rechargeable 9 volts in it either. If getting a UniProbe I feel the best deal is the original with the headphones as these are high quality headphones for a little more and it is just a matter of switching a toggle switch to turn off the audio of the detector and turn the probe on. I tried the new Pistol Probe, but the audio pitch just was too high for me to hear and felt I would have to take my headphones off and listen real close to hear it. It is a nice hand held probe for most but the UniProbe seems so much better it is worth the extra.

very sensitive in this forum. This might be the first time i've seen the extra weight of the X-1 probe mentioned. I cannot stand any extra weight especialy using a larger coil. Thats why i've been reading about the new garret Pinpointer and it seems to be the best one i've ever researched. I want vibrate only wich the garret doesnt offer. Has anyone opened a Garret and cut the speaker wire??? I cant stand to listen to pinpointer sirens. I dont care about voiding the warrenty as long as i can stop annoying audio. I want to stop all the audio, not just cover the speaker with tape or cork. Isnt there such thing as a hand held pinpointer being to sensitive and deep?? What if yur trying to find a small earing with other trash near by or in the hole?? Thanks All... Good huntin... BK

From what I seen on a Garrett video a while back someone just covered the speaker with electrical tape and that did the trick. I've never had a problem with my PP detecting multiple targets in a hole and not knowing which one I was gunning for. It has helped detect multiple coins in a hole though. That situation really doesn't come up too often so much that I say to myself, "This thing detects everything! It does me no good" I do wish though that it had vibration mode but it does not. Only low & high sound or you can use LED mode.

But I am very satisfied with my PP because it has helped locate stuff in holes & plugs much faster than I ever dreamed of and it goes deep.

I guess I will make a few points in general about pinpointers and stand up for the X-1.

Look at pinpointers logically. The purpose of a pinpointer is to provide target information. Ideally, I want the pinpointer to indicate the exact location of the target, what the target is, and how deep that target is from the tip of the probe at the greatest distance possible. This information will assist most in ultimately retrieving the target the quickest without damage. The rest of the operating parameters of an acceptable pinpointer are just user preferences and conveniences. Keep these points in mind to make a logical pinpointer choice for yourself.

For me, the X-1 fits the bill the closest. For me the extra weight is not an issue. I only use an Explorer, so interchangeability is not an issue. It will tell me the exact location. It indicates what the target is via tone. It's music to my ears to hear that high pitch song after digging a plug on an iffy signal. It indicates depth of the target via intensity of the audio signal when in pinpoint mode on the Explorer. You can tell if the target is right under the probe or 3" down by the audio intensity. Finally, the depth is sufficient to efficiently retrieve targets.

What am I missing here? I am seeing all the complaints about the X-1 adding weight to the E-Trac. If you carry the probe in a pocket in your pants you only have the additional weight of the switch box on the machine. Where do you put the uni-probe when you are hunting? You can eliminate the bracket that holds it also, if you put it in your pocket. The Swingy Thingy or it's competitor's support systems, eliminates the weight from you arm and puts it on the center of your chest via straps that hook to your back pocket. If 4 pounds of vertical pull on your pants pocket is too much, you better get in the gym and pump some iron or take your defibrillator with you. Another advantage of the ST is that if you want to blow your nose or flip off your buddy you can do it with both hands as the unit will just hang quietly at your waist. I use the Garrett because it vibrates and I don't have to worry about hearing it through my headphones or pulling the headphones off so I can hear it. I am the one who put electrical tape over the Garrett's speaker holes and it doesn't mute it but it does tame it so it's not a nuisance to you or others. It probably increases its resistance to rain also. Regards...Jim
