Detector Problems--Help

lerafe

Member
I went out today turned on the detector and it turned of immediately. The batteries were fairly new if I remember correctly
.Any help appreciated

Make sure that your battery spring contacts aren't squashed down, causing intermittent connections.
Also clean the contact surfaces of the batteries themselves. A regular pencil eraser works well.

Anyone else have other suggestions?

Hi,
I suggest that you check the battery connections.
If batteries are dropped in repeatedly, over time they cause the springs to compress which means they don't contact well - IMHO this is a common XTerra problem
What a lot of guys do / did is to GENTLY prise up the bottoms "springs which often solves the issue
.....if that is your problem or not I don't know but maybe worth a try ?
good luck with it

I bought some duracell batteries that were defective, "causing intermittent contact. The positive ends were pushed (recessed) inside the battery, couldn't really tell until you looked across the top of the battery and couldn't even see the + post. Always check your batteries well. good luck.

What ever the problem is , never drop the batteries into the Terra , keep the Terra near level with a very few degrees of angle.

For this thread and all users- Witnessed an anomaly with some Ray o Vacs. The foil type. When I open the battery compartment the foil on the sides of 2 batteries were shorting /sparking. This was on my Whies (not my 705). But the fact that it even happened once- consider NOT using batteries with foil paper.
