Detector storage

I read somewhere that it is a delicate piece of electronic equipment and should be stored in a cool dry place and never in the trunk of a car (in the summer), but treated much the same as you would a laptop.

Depends on how hot it gets there. If it gets too hot you'll fry some things. Look in the back of your manual and it shows the heat ranges the 1500 can handle.

Store the Metal Detector in the house. Preferably in a closet or
under the bed but keep this computerized machine
safe from extremes of temperature and humidity just as you
would store your computer.

I think there was something posted in the Minelab elite/gt and Excalibur forum about 11 months ago under excal trunk storage. I am not sure how to post it here, but someone does.

Personally I treat my metal detector as if they are family. I have a Air conditioning gage in the vent of my car to monitor the temperature of the air coming out during the summer. There are times when I get in the car the temperature says 140+. I would not leave my laptop in that heat, neither would I leave my metal detector in it. I spend good money on some of my toys and do not have the money to throw away. I sometimes work hard to get a Penny.

I wouldn't for two reasons. One, the heat. Two, if it was stolen you'd probably miss it. Take it in the house when you're done. If you're talking about driving around with it looking for places to hunt, don't worry.
