Deus Questions

I am getting a new and I have just thrown this detector into the top of the list. My concerns are Depth. How deep is stock coil going to hit on US coins? How is it relic hunting? How is it compared in these two subjects compared to the Etrac and the CTX3030? Last but not least how is it on tiny gold?

Depth is good. Take it slow
Relic Hunting it is one of the best
A better relic hunter than either one of those probably those two are a little deeper
In 18 kHz the Deus does well on small gold Jewelry. It is not a nugget hunting machine. There are much better detectors for that.

What about battery life? I just read through some of Andy's test reports from a magzine and I see that the battery life changes on which mode u use. All he stated was 7 hours on relic mode and 13 on another I forget which it was. DO you have problems with the batteries dying on you during a long hunt say 7-8 hour all day hunts? Even with the emergency back up battery it takes 40 minuts to charge it up only giving you what 40-50% of battery life back and if it dies at the end of a hunt you may as well pack it up because by the time your done charging it would be time to go.

I am liking the size and the settings on this machine but I am not so stoked about the battery life and sending the coil in for new batteries.
Hopefully there is more good with this machine than there is bad.
I will keep researching until time to buy.

PD,
I have no problems with hunt time and battery life.
Although I don't hunt in 7 or 8 hour stretches I do hunt for up to 4 or 5 hours per.
Most of the time I recharge after 3 or 4 hunts for a total hunt time one one battery charge of about 10 to 12 hours.
So if I were to plan an ALL day hunt of up to 8 hours I would just make sure that I had my batteries fully charged and would not give it another thought.
As far as replacing the batteries... There are members on here that have had their Deus for years and have never had any issues with their batteries.
The Deus is great on relics, coin shooting and in trashy sites it's amazing.
The light weight and wireless feature make all the differance in the world.
See if you can find one to barrow and give it a try.
I think you will like it.

Should I forget to charge the coil,I made up a unit using the AA pod which allowes me to keep detecting while charging the coil. Jerry.

Unless you plan on hunting from before the sun comes up until well after it goes down, battery life will not be an issue. The reason modes make a difference is more associated with the Transmit Power you select than which mode you are in - frequency is not related to battery life. The coil tends to get less life than the control unit and the headphones but 10+ hours is normal for all three. The emergency charger uses a single AA battery and gets you back up in no time. Since the batteries are LioN, recharging them on the way to the hunt site with the car charger or whenever you get home is not an issue as it would be with NiCad cells.

As far as the coil battery, yes it woudl need to go back to the service center which is in MA and has 2 day turnaround but very few hunters in Europe that have been using theirs since 2009 have had to consider replacing the battery. I would not be concerned about the issue of sending the coil in for a new battery as it is not expensive and quickly done if you need it years down the road.

If there are other questions we can help you with in your research, feel free to post them here

i have had my etrac now for nearly 4 years and never thought i would find a machine to beat it

that is until i borrowed a deus for a morning to check it out

i have not used my etrac since and although i think it has the slight edge on depth the weight is not worth that little bit extra depth

i would be more than happy to hunt with my deus alongside any etrac owners and still get the goodies if i walk over them

as for the battery life ,when we go detecting for a weekend or in this years case for 3 weeks at a time

we take along a car battery and simply hook it up to that every night instead of using the battery in the car

i also take a motor cycle battery when out for the day ,just in case i need to top up

like you i had major concerns over the battery issue but believe me it is not a major worry

you will love using a dues as it is lightweight, wireless and most importantly it will find the goodies

I used my Deus with large coil in the UK for 7 days straight for a minimum of 11 hours each day. I charged up all 3 pieces every night.
I made as many great finds as the guys with the CTX.

When I returned home I realized that I had left my Deus headphones over in the UK. No problem, Chicago Ron had them and would be mailing them to me the next week when he got back to the USA himself.

I had the opportunity to hunt here before getting my Deus headphones back from Ron. I whipped out my E-Trac that I had kept as backup. After 2 hours detecting I was so disgusted with both the weight and the slow processor speed that I called it a day. That was on a Thursday. By the weekend the E-Trac and all it's accessories were broken down and quickly sold. I got back about $1000 on my 3 year old E-Trac and assorted coils, etc.

Using the Deus for such an intense amount of hours compacted into a short timeframe really spoiled me...

This is just one man's opinion.

Thanks for all of the knowledgeable responses. I hope to pick me up one by March. I will check back if I can think of anymore questions
