VER. 15-- THEREFORE IT IS NO GREAT THING IF HIS MINISTERS ALSO BE TRANSFORMED AS THE MINISTERS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS;WHOSE END SHALL BE ACCORDING TO THEIR WORKS.

MATTHEW 7: VER. 21,22,23.
VER.21----NOT EVERYONE THAT SAITH UNTO ME ,LORD,LORD,SHALL ENTER INTO THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN;BUT HE THAT DOETH THE WILL OF MY FATHER WHICH IS IN HEAVEN.
VER.22---MANY WILL SAY TO ME IN THAT DAY,LORD,LORD,HAVE WE NOT PROPHESIED IN THY NAME?AND IN THY NAME HAVE CAST OUT DEVILS?AND IN THY NAME DONE MANY WONDERFUL WORKS?
VER.23----AND THEN WILL I PROFESS UNTO THEM,I NEVER KNEW YOU ;DEPART FROM ME ,YE THAT WORK INIQUITY.

Mike is right! No one likes Matt 7:21-23, but many, according to Jesus Himself, will hear those fearful words. Who are they? This question has been in my mind a lot lately, and I therefore could not resist adding a few thoughts to the discussion.

The problem for many is that they hear the Gospel, and fall in love with the heroic Christ. The idea of the Just dying for the unjust, the Rescuer dying whilst saving another, has a wonderful attraction to we humans. The Gospel story is a lovely story, and coming to believe in it, is the beginning of enlightenment. The Good Seed is sown, but will it bring forth good fruit?

Some people stop there. They come to believe that the Gospel story is true, and then think that such a belief brings salvation. I have known people like this, and one of them died recently. He believed the Gospel story, but his life shows that he did not follow Jesus. That is partly why I am thinking about this matter at the moment, and adding these few lines.

Having faith in the Gospel story (that it is true and wonderful) is not saving faith. A woman said to me recently that her husband believes in God, as if that was all that counts, but he lives his life without the slightest reference to God. Can such a faith save him? As the Scriptures say, "You believe that there is one God; you do well: the devils also believe, and tremble." James 2:19

Jesus said, "You are my friends IF YOU DO what I command." John 15:14 The saved are those who follow Jesus, and do what He commands, as best we understand His leading. To believe the Gospel story is a lovely thing, but to FOLLOW Jesus is the ESSENTIAL thing. Those who follow Jesus will never be put to shame, but those who simply believe the story about Him, but don't follow Jesus, will.
