Took Casey to school this morning and of course the high school trees are all decorated in toilet paper.
I noticed last night it was Devil's Night and asked Casey where the kids planned on going for fun. Her answer was "Pere Cheney".
Remember awhile ago I mentioned having an old ghost town to metal detect and it had a cemetary...where it is claimed strange things happen?
Well the town is gone just a lot of woods and weeds that is near impossible to detect in. The cemetary has had many incidents of vandalism...in fact there is only a handfull if that grave markers...and they are badly damaged except one...a War veteran's headstone.

Other headstones did not fair as well. This photo was taken over a year ago and now even those pieces of the large headston on the right are gone.

One story about these graves is that high school kids did this destruction and they all were killed...some naturally and some mysteriously.
There is an on going battle to catch the vandals...the township has to replace the front gates that keep getting torn down.
There are those who have been there for 'supernatural' research. There was even a movie (check Internet Movie Database for the movie 'Pere Cheney') that was made. (Hey I just checked the IMDB and that movie trailer from One Man Down Productions has 'disappeared'. I am glad I kept a copy of it on my harddrive.) A Google search for Pere Cheney should turn up some more info if your curiousity is wondering about this town and cemetary.
The townspeople were hit several times with diptheria and cholera that killed many adults and children...there are 2 mass graves at the cemetary for many children of the town children who did not survive the diptheria and cholera.

Town suffered from several fires and rebuilt time and again. By 1920 the post office had closed and maybe 15 people were left...out of a population of over 5,000+ that were there in the 1880s.
Here is a picture taken that is 'spooky'.

The red circle shows someone 'not there'. It is said the cemetary is watched over by a veteran...maybe Augustine O Dell. I wasn't there when this was shot.
I have heard many stories about strange things about this town and many of its people. Great campfire - scare the beejeebees out of people type - stories.
So last night the cemetary was to be visited again by people drawn by the stories of the 'haunted' cemetary.
One thing that happens is that people driving out there, when they return to their cars find one of two things that have happened...in the dust on their vehicle is hand prints from little children...the other is that people have troubles with thier vehicles until they get about 5 miles away then the vehicles operate normal again.
Now I've been out there a couple times. No finger prints...no vehicle problems...well until last time I went there.
After leaving I got a ways down the road and wanted to take a picture (oh forgot to mention electronic gadgets like cameras seem to malfunction too) but the batteries in the camera were dead. I had some in the accessory bag for the detector. I stopped the van, got out and went over to the sliding door and opened it, dug around for the batteries and found them and laid them in the front seat then went to close the sliding door....it came off the track and here I am with the door in both hands...many miles from home and not sure how I am going to get the door back on. (It is still broken to this day and I cannot get it to operate properly without falling off.)
Well kiddies, that is your ghost story for today. Think whatever you may but I feel sympathy for the familes who lived in that little town. I hope they all knew Christ.
