DFX question

Hi. I am in the process of purchasing a used DFX spectrum E series with extra coil. It is just over 2 years old and is in great condition. Is this detector different from other DFX modles and what is the good and bad about this unit? any info or expertise would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

All DFX detectors are the same. They are all E Series machines. The only difference is what coil it has on it. They were supplied by the factory with the flat eclipse 950 coil, The newer 950 Eclipse coil with the 4 rasied sections on the top (this coil is repairable, the older flat coils were not), and the 300 coil which is the same as the Super 12 coil (both 12" or 300mm in diameter.)

Thank you for the info I don't think I can go wrong with the DFX. it is in my price range and it is coming with a dd coil and an extra batter rechargable. I am going to get this detector unless some one out there can tell me why I shouldn't and why?

My DFX is my 'go-to' detector. Im impressed with its tweakability and the choices of White's and aftermarket coils. In my opinion you cant go wrong. HH. Matt

It has been a while since I owned a DFX but, checking my notes, I believe the following will help you off to a good start.

> Make sure the trigger is in the center position.
> Click the ON/OFF button. The detector will go through a number of startup screens ending at the MAIN MENU with an arrow pointing left beside PRESET PROGRAMS.
> Click ENTER. You will jump to the PROGRAMS menu with an arrow pointing left beside the COIN program. (Suggest you use the Coin program in the beginning until you are comfortable with it. Later startup in Coin & Jewelry program and additional targets will start sounding off.)
> If necessary, use the DOWN ARROW KEY till the arrow pointing left is beside the preset program you want to use.
> Click ENTER and the preset program will load and you will be asked to raise the coil.
> Click ENTER and you will hear a beep and then be asked to lower the coil to the ground.
> Click ENTER and you will hear a beep and you will now see the Live Search Screen.
> Click MENU and you will go back at the MAIN MENU.
> Click the DOWN ARROW KEY maybe twice till the arrow pointing left is beside PRO OPTIONS.
> Click ENTER and you will see the PRO OPTIONS MENU with the arrow pointing left beside AUDIO.
> Click ENTER and you will see the RATCHET PINPOINTING screen.
> If necessary, press ENTER till the check mark is in the OFF box.
> Click the DOWN ARROW KEY and you will see the S.A.T. SPEED screen.
> Click the DOWN ARROW KEY and you will see the Tone I.D. screen.
> If necessary, press ENTER till the check mark is in the ON box.
> Click the DOWN ARROW KEY and you will see the V.C.O. screen.
> If necessary, press ENTER till the check mark is in the ON box.
> Pull and release the trigger and start hunting.

You should now be hunting in the preset program of your choice with Ratchet Pinpointing OFF, Tone ID ON and VCO ON. The Ratchet Pinpointing feature confuses many people new to the DFX so OFF is the best option. Tone ID ON gives you audible target ID indications. And, VCO ON is a great help in accurate pinpointing. You will need to perform these changes each time you start the DFX until you learn how to save a program.

Good luck ... sounds like you have a good deal going.
