DFX300 vs DFX

I know the only thing different between the DFX300 and the DFX is the search coil, if you where going to buy one or the other would you pay for the big coil on the DFX300 or save your money and buy a DFX

Unless you plan on hunting lots of open space and beaches (at least 75% of the time), look for a regular DFX with the 9.5 coil. You can always get a used Super 12 coil at some point ( I had one, but sold it since I ended up getting the BHID 300 for the beach due to it being waterproof).

I mostly use the 5.3 coil on my DFX anyway. Its a great coil and you can bump up the sensitivity without it becoming unstable. I use it as one of my primary dry sand machinea, and in the 15kHz frequency it gets small gold really well. Also, in trashy areas, it can pick out the coins. DFX and a small coil is a great set up.

6 coils later, I come to the same conclusion. (D2 included) +1

I guess that would depend on the type of hunting you are wanting to do. If you plan on being in a high trash area go with the DFX and buy the gift pack and pick a smaller coil.

You can but the DFX 300 for $1199.95. But my suggestion would be go with the DFX ($1099.95 and purchase the All-American gift pack for $100 (Bullseye pinpointer, Royal Get Headset and your choice of one from a selection of coils - Your cost: $1199.95). - This way you save a $100 bucks and you now have two coils instead of one. Seems like an easy choice to me.

(You can pick from the Super 12, 10" D[sub]2[/sub], 4x6 Eclipse or the 5.3 Eclipse.)

I agree with the others. If you are mainly detecting beaches and farm fields the larger coil is good, but for everyday detecting I prefer the 9.5".

I call the 12 inch coil my summer coil. Summer months make it difficult to detect the wooded areas that I normally stick to. The poison ivy and underbrush are too overbearing for me during July and August. By keeping the 12 inch coil attached, I can resist the temptation to hit the forest.
