Did anyone use the 11" DD on the F5 yet?

Terry in PA

New member
Just wanted to know if it had the same effect on the f5 as it does on the omega 8000 ?

From what I've read Terry, I'd say no.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely think the F5 is a better detector with the 11" than the stock 5X10 concentric. And it's a darn fine detector with the stock coil.

Separation is noticeably better with the DD of course, more ground gets covered, and in my moderate soil it seems a little bit deeper.

But I've read reports on the Omega that say the 11" turns it into a different machine, and as deep as the F75 on high conductors. I don't see that with the F5.

The trade off with the F5 is the big coil throws the ergonomics off a little. Its slight enough that it's no big deal to me, but enough that I notice the detector isn't quite as well balanced as with the stock coil.

The other negative is it's an expensive coil. If you're on the fence, you might want to be patient and watch for a used one to pop up. New they cost around $170. I've seen them used a couple times going for under $100.

I made the mistake of preordering one when it first came out and paid almost $200 after the dealer asked me for another $20 because Fisher raised the price they originally said it was going to cost.
